Really? Some 19 or 20 year old will be our best hope?
Are you in 7th or 8th grade?

Well, that was his choice.
Well, being born stupid was certainly your choice. Your parents had nothing to do with it.

Tokyo 1964 was far from just being about Billy Mills. There was at least one US runner in the top 6 in every mens' running event. Bob Hayes races were as thrilling as Mills with two tremendous races. Hayes tied the world record the 100 and the US set a World Record in the 4 x 100. Henry Carr and Paul Drayton were 1, 2 in the 200. Mike Larrabee won the 400. Bob Schul and Bill Dellinger were one three in the 5,000 in the rain and mud. Then there was also Billy Mills with his surprise gold in a 10,000 meters in an Olympic Record time. These were just some of the highlights of those games. Does anyone think the US can match 1964 in 2020?
Gov? Sure. Prez, no. See the difference? And Arnold wasn't governor of Austria or wherever, was he?
Lagat competed for Kenya he wasn't just born there. I have no issue with Lomong for example.
Attempting to pick medal winners seven years from now? You've got to be joking.

Why is your username "the ghost of billy mills"? You know Billy Mills is still alive, right? He has a pretty awesome Facebook page that he actually posts on: https://www.facebook.com/OfficialBillyMills
I think this is actually an interesting thread.
It's not a joke. There are very few people wiht the 'talent level' to win medals. People think it's about developing talent but only if you have a huge amount to begin with.
The weird thing thinking about 2020 is while most of the current stars might be too old, people like Mary Cain and Ajee Wilson will only be like 24 and 26.
One thing people forget about Centro is how young he is. While he's been a pro for two years, the guy is just 23. He's younger still this year than Leo Manzano was in 2008 when Leo graduated from Utxas. In 2008, Leo was 23 and has an OCtober bday. Centro is 23 and has a september birthday.
So Centro jr will be 30 and Jager 31. Definitely not too old. Cain and Wilson - not too old.
Simpson will be 33 (possibly 34 dependping if it's late August), definitely not too old assuming she's still motivated. I'd say I'm more confident in her being a factor in 2020 than Cain simply because we know Simpson already is a medallist at that level. Cain still has to develop to that level.
Saarel is a guy I'd say as well.
College runner, I love the optimism of youth. I wish I wasn't jaded, but come on man. Go out and by sports gene. If you aren't competing for an NCAA title, then I think you aren't ocmpeting for an Olympic medal.
It's a long shot, but I'd love to see Merritt pick up another gold here in the 400 or 4x4.
The Track and Field began on October 14th in 1964. There were miserable rainy, cold days but there were also days when it was hot and humid with thick air like the day of the marathon which began at 1 PM on October 21st.
Alan Webb: Tactical 27:45 for silver. I'm a realist.

What a mistake he made, lying about being an American citizen so he could run for Kenya. Sounds like he was really proud of his new country, doesn't it?

Tokyo has to still be there in 2020 for them to host the event. That will be the hard part.
wemadethis
Tokyo won the Olympic bid so we're all screwed.
What ever information was due to be revealed is about to be swept under the mother of all rugs.
Being in Europe I expect to have another year or so of relative safety but if I lived anywhere downstream of Japan I'd be getting pretty uncomfortable right about now

Yes… Hope the main one will be the lowest ever recorded turn-out by athletes.
Though I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that money had changed hands.
I wonder just how many heads-of-state will make excuses not to go.

If your goal is to destroy/scramble the strongest of the human gene pool with ongoing Nuclear Radiation Contamination releases, then having the olympics staged in Tokyo Japan is the very best place to do such a nefarious deed.

Hi Obe .. disappointing news indeed.
Honest Abe apparently put on quite a show in his last pitch to IOC for Tokyo host.
Made some promises and claims that are gonna be hard to back up.
Did you read Fuku Diary's contribution (linked today) abt Tepco apologizing for essentially upsetting govt's bid for Olympics?
Maybe a good thing ultimately in terms of Fukushitty remediation; it's gonna stretch Japan's economy to max to fulfill promises that Fuku will never has never had any effect on Tokyo and prepare for an Olympic event.
They will be printing $ as fast as they can. Which is ironic because Madrid's bid was ousted apparently bc of financial reasons. Abe is desperate to prove economic recovery.
Or they will continue to lie.
Will Abe even be in office still in 2020?
Wicked world.
