Sure it does. Consumers are saving not spending, they are saving.
Not sure how things are where you live, but the Idaho economy has been open in some fashion for four weeks. My observation is little activity. We are into our third stage where bars are now open. Hair salons, gyms, and restaurants have been open for two weeks. Two of the YMCAs I attend had less than a dozen people. Downtown Boise has similar activity to a Christmas Day. The busiest spot was a food bank drive thru.
Now someone can believe a 35% move off the bottom signals the low is in, but I don’t. There will be no V-shaped recovery. This is the greatest bear market rally during the largest health, economic, and financial markets crisis in the last 140 years. Riots across the country shows great social and economic sickness well beyond Covid-19.
