Steve Spence ran 4:51 tonight at his collegiate XC camp to continue his streak to 38 years. Does anyone know if he is getting close to the longest streak ever?

Pretty f'ing baller.
Were all of these efforts in organized meets?
What is 451 worth for a 1600?
It was a full mile and recently he has been running the mile to start of his team camp.
I got that it was a full mile, but does that convert to an impressive 1600 time?
Actually quite depressing. He used to run 26 miles at that pace.
P Jerk,
4:51 * (1600/1609.34) = roughly 4:49.3
For anyone that doesn't know, Steve Bence is A Duck

Ha - without really thinking about it I was guessing a 2.5-3 second adjustment.
Good job Steve. Keep it up, and whatever the record is, I hope you get it.

Thanks for doing the math. That is pretty fast! Any idea what his best mile time was when he ran it in the Olympics?
But a small achievement compared to fathering and coaching Neely Spence Gracey into a complete bad*ss (America's baby-faced assassin).
Congrats, Steve, the Mile loves you!

Stuart Calderwood of NYC is at 41 years and still going.
That's pretty impressive.
NYC isn't too far from Ship. Maybe next year (and any future years) someone should try to get them together to race to extend their streaks.

Maybe he was running marathon pace effort.
What the heck is up with the three rabbits? One rabbit lasted only a 75-second quarter. The second dropped after a 2:29 half. The third rabbit could have been sole rabbit. Pretty silly to have three rabbits for such a lackluster pace.
I'm at 13 years right now, and something tells me I won't be making it to 30.

Good job Steve. Keep that streak alive.
Steve's form still looks great. Spence seemed to be one of the only Americans running well when I was in high school in the early 90's. His Bronze medal in the Worlds and his decent performance in 92 was fun to watch.
