In most cases slow races are more entertaining than fast races anyway.

Seriously, everyone complaining about tactical races doesn't understand the sport. There's so much more to it than just "jog" and kick. Starting your kick at 500 or 400 or 200 can make or break the race. Trying to run shorter and staying on the rail runs the risk of you getting boxed in. Things get pretty physical if you're in the middle of the pack, but do you risk going to the front or all the way to the back where it's tough to move up from. Centro's semi-final race was a gorgeous display and luckily it got some credit on here. A perfectly run tactical race is way better to watch than two guys chasing a rabbit and the field getting dropped, before they ultimately slow down when the rabbit drops anyways.

No one is suggesting the employment of rabbits in championship events. We just want to see the world's best getting after it for an entire race. May the best man win, not the best 400 guy.

Her coach should have been fired a long time ago. I can now kind of understand why Nike dropped her; they just always think they know better, and have resisted teaching her to run different tactics.

Maybe, maybe she could get away with that tactic in single races, internationally, but she has yet to prove she can win that way after heats, semi's.

It is pretty much how championship races are run and it pretty much always has been. If you're really sick of it your best bet is to stop watching races at the Olympics and Worlds.

Tactical races produce true champions. Not only do you need the ability to be there, and be there in the end. You need to put yourself in position and best your peers mentally and physically. It's special to see the best race each other in this type of race, when we see them in Golden Leagues their finishing place isn't a major concern for them. Here IT IS EVERYTHING!

Thing is, nobody made a move until the final 100! I thought I was watching the 3rd lap on the last lap.

When will you Americans get it - it is a race not a time trial.

most of the guys in the race wanted it to go like it did.

kiprop and the kenyans however wanted it fast, which makes the final result defy logic. but then again, the kenyans don't use their heads and run at random.

kiprop and rudisha however are know what they are doing, champions can think.

also koech in the 5k is his own man and he may become a non-faceless kenyan. one with a personality that is expressed in races. you know, get in position early, use tactics, get in position at the bell. maybe even train properly and peak.

btw how are you supposed to run when you have a pr 5-6 seconds slower than the number 1 seed?

I'm going out on a limb here, i dont really know what i am talking about. But if you know your pr is 6 seconds slower than the top seed and you also know that your kick much is worse..

would it not be a better to go all out from the start and hope the top seed has one of those days where he just wont be able to run at max? I believe kicks are much more stable than "time trial" times?

Well.. back at the the All City Championships I didn't use such p#ssy tactics.

The gun went and I charged hard from the start. If anyone was going to beat me, they were going to earn it dammmit! I wanted to make my rivals hurt, to experience true pain.

These guys at the WCs need to start real running, ya know like Pre!
