Not her only problem.

Montano doesn't need to sit and kick. Just not go out so insanely fast.
B-Mart was weaving a bunch at the end. Lucky to find space on the inside.
What is a shame are your ignorant comments.
Great effort from a great runner. Keep your head up Alysia.

Try instead - Letsrun, where some people are actually too stupid to recognize that Montano is destroying her own career with failed front-running tactics.
Grabbing the lead is one thing, taking it out in 26.8 is a different animal entirely. Think about it - two FULL SECONDS slower than that is still 1:55.2 pace, over two seconds faster then her best.
This is a low- to sub-1:56 runner waiting to happen if she can get her head screwed on right.
what's wrong with diving? it almost got her a medal
bronze and P.R. for BMart in her 1st WC . . .
P.R. and US Junior record for Ajee . . .
helps make up for Montano's tacticle mistake. Hopefully this was the wake up call for Alysia.

Are you new to the sport? That was a fall, not a dive. People fall at the end of 800s all the time. When you run big positive splits, you lose control of your legs sometimes.
Montano is a sprinter. She's not someone who can hang back and beat 800/1500 runners on the homestretch. Could she have run 1:57.0 and won if she went out a second slower? Very possibly. But timing splits perfectly in a WC final is easier said than done.

To be fair, the sit and kick is criticized in the 1500-10000 races, not the 800.
Agreed. The 800 is a completely different animal from races 1500 and up. Running hard (not sprinting) from the start of a distance race is courageous and honest. Blasting the first lap of an 800 is a stupid "fly-n-die" approach. I still wonder if we'll ever see a world class 800 runner who is smart enough to pursue a negative split race.

Actually, very slightly positive splits are, physiologically speaking, the way to go in the 800. But this?
26.80
29.26 = 56.06
Not sure on the 600 split
61.89 last 400
Not courageous, not something that plays to her strengths and weakens the rest of the field. STUPID.
Does she even have a coach? If so, does he have fewer than three copies of his 21st chromosome?

Symmonds is a kicker. He's not someone who can risk running towards front and still finish top 3.
Montano has had years of asskickings in international competition to realize she should at least TRY to mix up her strategy and gain new skills.

I can always count on you to make a jackass of yourself. Where was Symmonds at the bell the only time he finished top 3? At the front, jackass.
Yeah, Montano needs to change her tactics. Great (lucky) finish on the inside for Bmart.

Her coach is Tony Sandoval from Cal.
Montano is his only claim to fame.
NCAA Champion.
Great running from all of the Americans!

The comments were not ignorant whatesoever. Where you been?
Some of us have seen 100's of high school races like that.
Someone races way out to the lead, only to die and wobble, lose, even splat at the end.
Consider that people are upset for her, and with her.
These tactics likely cost her 100grand today, and a half mil over the past 5 years.
She just thinks she is right running this way, and everyone else who thinks she needs to learn to let someone else lead and then kick them down is just wrong.
Well, she's now lost 4 international title races this exact way, with today being the worst example.
Kudos to Brenda and Ajee.
Russian might have cause Wilson a medal, bounce her around pretty good should be dq.
Montano is the best 800 meter runner in the world if she would allow herself to be. We can never kill someone for trying but one must be realistic in tactics.
Nobody with credibility can honestly say she did the right thing by going out in 26/ 55,56 the way she folded in the last 50 meters. I was watching it with my six year old son and asked him at the 500 Mark if he thought she would win the race? Yes, he thought she would and when I told him no way, no how and I was correct he asked me how did I know?
I said son it's common sense physiology, once you get crap in your legs (lactic acid) it's over and going out like that causes crap to build up.. She ran like a 6 year old by thinking if I go all out in the beginning I can't be caught. Save your career dear and tone it down a notch. What's the worst thing that happens? You don't get a medal? Ask Symmonds about growing as an athlete and how it feels. It's not you against the world, it's you verses yourself. Make a change and win the gold in Rio.
Coach ?

You must be either new to the Sport of Track and Field, or new to seeing Alysia run. She ALWAYS leads thru the 1/4 and wins wire-to-wire. She's a FIVE TIME USATF NATIONAL CHAMPION, and has won the 800m Nationals four years straight.
If you were to look at EVERY single race that she has won, she leads through the 1/4, and usually comes thru in a high 56 or mid-57
She is the American record holder in the indoor 600m at 1:23.59 which she posted THIS year.
She ran 1:57.75 at Paris THIS year.
She was ready to run FAST.
