Savinova looks very good. Will be very hard to beat.
Wilson is so overshadowed by Cain. Great run by the young lady.
Thank you, good sir.
Fantastic result for US.
akkaoui is out. must be off the special sauce.
Heat 2:
28.21
1:00.49
1:30.75
2:00.72
Savinova
Sum
Wilson
Nice final straight push by Wilson, 7th to 3rd looked easy.
All 3 Americans Through!
Fastest losers from heat 1 above.
brava ajee - I thought she was out of it but her strategy worked out perfectly.
So much luck in these things - if it had been a fast pace, she would have been way too far back, but as it was she did it just right.
3 americans in the final - amazing.

Her splits are never even close to being even.
Kotulskaya and Akkaoui being out definitely help the Americans' medal chances. I'm expecting at least one medal.
3 Americans in the 8 woman final. Stats nerds - compute some medal possibilities considering all outcomes equally likely.
First time in history of World Champs that the USA will have 3 women in the 800 final
I have been watching all of this on watchathletics, the BBC feed, and this was the first race in which the British boosterism was too much to bear. I don't care who they choose to interview and how much they cheer for the Brits, but they actually kept the camera on Muir for much of her race when all she was doing was passing one person. Come on already.

I'm not a fan of nationalism, either. But the taxpayers who fund the BBC have the final say.
As it was, they gave about 10 times more attention to the likes of Martinez and Cain than our broadcasters would ever give to their promising young runners.
For distance races, even the BBC at its worst is better than NBC. I'd rather see British boosterism than Tom Hammond any day.
Most watered down final ever. I guess a medal's a medal. No Jelimo, Jepkosgei, Semenya, Meadows, Magiso out, Niyonsaba out. USA's big chance.

By my computations, they have a 3 in 8 chance of any given place.

Montano has 1 tactic - hard front running with even or positive splits. It has worked to get her into the world finals, so it's kind of hard to criticize. She may end up like Duane Solomon but you've got to think that she knows how to maximize her chances and thinks that front running is the best way.
Also, the comments about her appearance are crappy.

Yup, I admit she is on the muscular side, but she ALWAYS has been; this is not a recent body change. And somehow, she makes it look good- no, in my opinion, great.
And listen to her in interviews. She doesn't try to conceal a deepened voice as being sultry- nope, she has a woman's higher pitch. So, I do not believe she is a homone-enhanced doper; certainly not a FloJo type.
To repeat, she has always been muscular, and her training has always been strength based.
