"Way less than 1%" is something like 3 standard deviations above the average. That's pretty rare, so here are 3 steps to change that:
1.) Exclude disabled people and everyone over 30.
2.) Give the remaining guys 3 years of training.
3.) Watch the sub 60 percentage shoot up from less than 1% to over 70%.
i know 2:4x marathoners that would literally die if they tried to run a 60 second lap.
They're not trained for speed, so let them work under a sprint coach from now on. Next year, take them to the track, bring a gun, and tell them that they'll be shot if they fail to run a sub 60. How many of them would not be able to do it then? I'd say zero.
On another note, a sub 60 400 is easier than a sub 5 mile. Despite this, there are so many "yes" responses to the "can anybody run a sub 5 mile" threads and so few "yes" responses to this one. I wonder why.
