Is Paula Radcliffe one of the commentators? If so, she sure does clean up well. She's pretty good looking.

Welcome to letsrun run. It's clearly your first day here is you haven't seen the HUNDREDS of threads throwing wild speculations at Salazar's group.

I am pleased to never hear the Botox boar Tom Hammond ever again. Thank you BBC.
That is not Botox; that is natural fat.
wow. even though i like tirunesh, i have to say i wanted the japanese girl to win. brave to take it out like that and also brave of shalane to try (maybe taking into account the hot and humid conditions which ended up not being so hot and humid really).
i think brendan foster said it but if the niiya steps up to the marathon she could be amazing. her style is way more road runnign than track.
Brendan Foster, BBC Sport commentator
"What a privilege it is to be around in the days of Tirunesh Dibaba."
Paula Radcliffe,
"They don't call her the baby faced destroyer for nothing. She could have won that race however it was run tonight; even if they were jogging she could have pulled clear."
Don't mind her strategy but it's a shame she wasn't allowed to double. "other young athletes deserve a spot" Yeah? Well beat Dibaba and you deserve it; otherwise, tough luck.

Flanagan leading. Where is the poster who called Valeria Straneo stupid yesterday?
That American girl sure went out like an idiot. No point leading if you know you're not good enough to last.

Her name is Hitomi Niiya. Her wikipedia page shows no noteworthy races apart from the 2005 World youth championships.
There were a few here and there like when she lead a healthy chunk of the London Olympics 10000 m and broke 31 there and when she won the Tokyo Marathon when she was 18.

Did anyone just hear what the NBC announcer said about the Japanese woman watching videos of animals giving birth?
My favorite part of the race.
Masback pulls out this nugget about her being a quirky runner and that before races she likes to watch videos of animals giving birth.
WHAT?
Reminds of baseball announcers trying to think of something to say between pitches.

I guess that means Masback is a Twitter user.

After all the complaints about conditions in Des Moines, the USA times were remarkably similar in Moscow although the conditions seemed somewhat better: Flanagan (31:43.20 in Des Moines versus 31:34.83 in Moscow; Hasay (32:17.34 versus 32:17.93); Hastings (32:31.28 versus 32:51.19). In fact, it's something of a shock that Hastings was 20 seconds slower in Moscow. Tara Erdmann's result (32:24.16 in Des Moines) looks a lot better in retrospect. Flanagan, at least, moderately improved her Des Moines time. Hasay can be happy she held it together at the World Championship level. I think we all realize, though, that there is a big big gap between the East Africans and everyone else at this distance, not likely to be overcome by any of the Americans for the foreseeable future.

Perhaps, but the problem is that she has zero speed and will never be medal contender.
Marathon you buffoon! Japanese are marathon crazy. Not 10K crazy. She will be a medal contender and majors podium threat for the next 3-4 years.
That race was dull. We needed Defar. Too bad Shalane did no have it. She will have pretty good speed for a marathon.
