Ethiopia's getting to be the land of DNFs
Wow, almost no posts about the Americans in this thread ... I guess beyond Kastor, few cared. I thought it was kind of pathetic how slowly the other two Americans went out. They were already nearly 3 minutes behind Kastor AT 10K!! And they're both 2:31-32 runners. Yes, they moved up through the pack during the race, but sheesh! Was it really hot, or were they struggling through injuries??
conditions were awful, it was hot and there was no spectators cheering people on. Only 3 athletes under 2:31!
Agreed - props to Deena for grinding out a top 10 finish in tough conditions.

They ran in the heat and peak sun at the middle of the day.
Fukushi in 3rd has come a long ways!
Here was Fukushi in 2008!
Kastor looks 59 years old.
It was HOTASS HELL-30C in the shade means much worse on that course. There were no spectators apparently because the cops closed off a lot of sections.A lot of my friends complained about that. I had no trouble getting onto a spot near the halfway mark and right about in the middle of each loop. This course is entirely in the sun and it's on BLACK asphalt that gets soft and shitty on a day like today and, yeah, it bakes your ass. I've raced tons on that side of the embankment since the late 90s and you get a good weather day maybe once every 10 yrs or so on race day May- late Aug. We had the Moscow Half here last Sunday and got very very lucky it was about 17C and overcast- that's not usually the case in early August. Deena looked strong despite the conditions and deserves some major respect. After I saw her just past 32K I hopped a ride with a buddy to make it to the finish in time.
Whoever decided on a 2pm start on the sunny side of the embankment in AUGUST had their head in a dark place and should have been made to run today with the ladies!

Valeria Straneo showed why you should pour lots of water on your head when it's hot. It really works.
Kiplagat showed you can get away with not pouring any water on your head, but only if you're the #1 Kenyan.

US finishes 2nd in team competition, beating Kenya, Ethiopia, and Japan, among others. People's Republic of Korea is first. Who would have predicted that?
Is there a free online video of this race, or at least the highlights?
