Straneo second, some seconds behind Kiplagat.
Why is this OP being so dumb?
I recant my previous statements. Congrats Valeria Stranero!
You're a moron! She has run 2:23 before and her pace was several minutes slower than that. She also trains in conditions similar to this. She was definitely the favorite to finish number one amongst the non Africans.

You must be female, no male here has ever recanted their error.

We thought today would be the first time a marathoner leads the world championships marathon from gun to finish. Instead, we have the first time a (possibly) male letsrun poster recants an opinion.
She sounds like she has a pretty strong character:

Nothing in her history suggest she can break the Ethiopians right on her tail.
So if guys don't break 27 in a 10k they get ripped for being wimps and sitting and kicking. But a woman pushes the pace in 85 degree heat (well over 90 in the sun) and she gets ripped for being dumb.
There are no winners I guess.
Performance of the WC. There won't be a better one. And I don't even like marathons.

INCORRECT!
She has no spleen - google the job of the spleen.
Perhaps her spleen was infected.
I didn't people could run well without spleens, but now I do.
Hope Saladbar doesn't find out 'cause when he does Rupp can kiss that lymph node goodbye.
Well, it worked against all but Kiplagat. Maybe she learned from a few other Italian marathoners, Stefano Baldini and Gelindo Bordin.
