Lol this is a funny f'ed up post above me. What about Suetsugu who medalled in the 2003 200m WCs 10 years ago, or was right there with others later down my post. Good ol' balco crackdown.
But I'm glad it sounds like there is some movement forward on this.. remember when a Russian was nailed for EPO but got off on a loophole? (No blood test taken concurrently) Radcliffe then hung out a massive "No to EPO" sign in view of the TV cameras and the busted Russian naturally won gold.. world indoors this might have been, around 2000/1.
Personally, I don't see why we should have a statute of limitations of 8 years. Apply the rules as at the times (so this can't be changed in retrospect, which is maybe harsh on the pre-90s but.. depends on when PED's were actually outlawed in the rulebook.. 70s.. 80s.. and catch up with drug tests when possible later (of which we only have a few for the 80s, most probably defunct now). I don't mind loads of athletes being thrown out as long as we end up with clean winners. If we have to go back to semi-final places then so be it. That just shows how prevalent it was back then if that's the case. Problem is, the natural defence of those times will be that dirty athletes got away with it for so long that everyone else did it simply to catch up/level the playing field - I'm thinking Flo-Jo then Ottey here.
But now it really seems like there is a push to have clean athletics, bar wonder substances like this American athlete says people are on (we can't deny that it might exist).
Blackcard - Is there any reason why Jamaican sprinting was in a 'lull' before Powell, Bolt etc? I'm thinking we had VCB in the 100, 200, from juniors up, and Christopher Williams? in the 200 doing 20.0-20.3 and he was level with GB sprinters, Collins etc. There was also Donovan Powell but he doesn't have decent FAT races, only a hand timed WR from what I can see (how random is that?!) and I seem to remember a shady story about a drugs/stimulant ban (could be totally wrong there).
VCB I think looked like she was slowing down at London 2012 but that could have been also lack of training from injury. But I wouldn't be surprised if her stimulant was just something for injury recovery, same for Powell, Gay too but his seems to be more of a recover and muscle boost at the same time. I'm amazed Gay has come back so many times from bad injury to run even better so far. If only US 08 trials snafu hadn't have happened, I wonder how things would have turned out differently. And we need better lane draws too, I'm thinking Berlin 09 than Beijing 08 (Powell out of the way, not next to Bolt there). /endrant
