Hey, I am going into my senior year of high school cross country this year with a 5K PR of 17:42 during my junior year. Is this PR good enough to get me on a decent cross country team? I am not looking to be one of the top runners on the team, I just want to continue my running career because I love the sport.
Also, during the summer going into my junior year, I didn't train at all. I ended up slowly dropping time each meet until I finished at conference with a 17:42. This summer going into my senior year, I have been running about 15-20 miles per week up until about 2 weeks ago when I started to do around 25 per week. Now my senior season is 2 weeks away and I plan on still running 25 miles per week up until then. Is it reasonable for me to shoot for a personal record time of around 17:00 this season? (Seeing how I didn't train at all last summer and this summer I have done quite a bit more) And how would a 5k PR time around 17:00 look for running DIII collegiate cross country? I appreciate your time and feedback! :)
