Merga could have given up his spot'
How ridiculous

Ethiopia is not a western democracy, hence their Athletic Federation is subject to changes from above by wim, and doing changes in the rules for the athletes themselves downwards the same way. If an American in the top 3 during trials with an A qualifier time was to be left out of the team, that person could take the American Federation to court for breaking the rules, and almost certainly win.
Remind me again why Sebastian Coe wasn't at the Olympics in 1988?
And if you were representing your hypothetical American in court, what would your theory be?
You read me wrong, I'm not praising the Ethiopian system, I'm pointing out that it's based on a wobbly and unpredictable form of communism where athletes are not much more than pawns used to glorify the nation and it's leaders - at HOME even more so than abroad.
Remember last year when Aregawi was cleared to run for Sweden in the women's 1500 at the Olympics? When visiting back home (she'd never been politically active against the government so she could) the Ethiopian Federation took away her passport and threatened to harass her remaining family if she didn't run for Ethiopia in London?
I'd prefer the USA's qualifying system any day!
If you cant back your allegations about Aregawi, i think you should stick to subject that you are more familiar with, such as burgers, pizza, video games etc.. and stop spouting about subjects you know nothing about.

You didn't read letsrun leading up to the olympics last year then? ;-)
