That's the point, I suppose. The 3000m record is usually out of reach of very fit 5000m and 10000m athletes who don't have the requisite speed, and is also out of range for excellent 1500m runners who don't have the long distance ability. Similar analyses can be made for the 5000m record. Mo Farah is not lacking in either respect, and while I agree that his existing marks don't suggest that he'd be in contention for these records, I don't think he's really gotten a good shot at either yet. Here's to hoping he's able to hop in a fast race and his fitness can truly be tested. Of course, there are no guarantees and I'm merely excited at the prospect of what Farah can do at the intermediate distances with this kind of range.

I'm not so sure that Kiprop has no chance at the 3000m record either. I certainly wouldn't bet on him, though frankly, I wouldn't bet on anyone, as that record is near untouchable. Nevertheless, Kiprop has outstanding 1500m speed and is a former world cross junior champ. He may have sacrificed some endurance under whatever training has enabled him to run 3:27, but I wouldn't so quickly dismiss him. However, I don't think he's interested in the 3000m at the moment, so it's kind of a moot point.

I found Asbel Kiprop's Facebook page and laughed for about 10 minutes because he has a great sense of humor.

If I saw correctly, out of the top 50 all-time 1500m performances, Farah is the only +30 year old performance. El G was close to 30 back in '04(Heusden and Zurich), but was a month or two short.

Some comments. He moved to Al Sal in early 2011 when he had already run 12:57, 7:34 and 3:33.Although he had run 10000m before the move to the US he had only ever run it 3 times and had never really had a serious crack at it. It is also interesting to note he ran 1:48.69 for 800m at age 20 when his PB for 1500m was still only 3:43 so he has obviously always had decent speed although it's moved on a whole other level from then. Would be interesting to see what he could run for 800m now! The most 1500m races he ran in a year was 5 in 2005 when he was 22 before starting to take running really seriously and moving to train with the Kenyans in London and having a proper go at the 5000m. In the last 5 years he has only run 1500m 7 times and did not run it at all in 2010 and 2011 otherwise I’m sure there would not be such a big jump in his 1500m progression. The 1500m tonight was also near perfect in terms of conditions and having people out in front to chase to allow him to run so quick.

Personally I think in middle distance and distance running we are in the era of legal performance enhancers with stuff like thyroxin which is allowing high level performances without positive tests and allowing performances close to what was produced by the cheats in the EPO era. I don't think Mo is doping with banned substances but I would not be surprised if he was taking non banned substances which are morally questionable.

We have a bunch of 22 year olds who can run this fast and who were faster than Mo younger. Amazing progression late. If he did this legit, no reason why guys like bayer, hill, bumbi, jäger, etc can't be 3:30/730/sub13 guys, right?

if Mo Farah wants to crush any WR it should be the 2 mile. Isnt it like low 8 mins?

If Tyson Gay/Asafa Powell are drug cheats might as well believe these guys are as well.

Did Mo really just say that this is the happiest he's ever been (in the post race interview)? Did I miss some sort of implied context?
