My buddy and I got into a discussion last night about LeBron James. I said if the guy wasn't 6'8 and built like a truck (250 lbs), he wouln't be that great.
Take away 7-8 inches and 75 pounds. Is he as good as Chris Paul (6'0 and 175 lbs)? I say no. Lebron's a 33% career 3 point shooter. Paul is 35%. LeBron is 75% from the line, Paul is 86%.
Lebron would still be good - maybe all star quality - but far from dominant.
To me, the whole thing that makes LeBron good is the fact that he's a physical freak. So big and strong but so quick. He's got point guard skills in a 6'8 250 pound truck of a body. How do you cover him? You don't. He can just phsyically back down anyone small enough to be quick enough to keep up with him quickness wise and quick enough to go around anyone big enought to match up with him physically.
What do you think?
Take away 5 inches and 65 pounds, what's he like as a shooting guard. Is he as good as Steph Curry ((6'3, 185 lbs)? No way, right? Curry is a 45% 3-point, 90% Ft guy.
That's why i think the point guard is the best analogy for Lebron. He's got PG skills and quickness in a power forwards body.
Put a guard on him, he just backs him down and throws in a lasyup. Put a big guy on him, he rushes around him and gets fouled going to the hole.
