You don't necessarily have to run 10k to be prepared for it though. Just like in London all he likely has to do is follow Farah.
I suspect he is in the mile for two possible reasons. One is just to get in a fast race to make the longer distances feel less aggressive. The second is that several of the last 5000's (London, 2013 Trials) he has run have featured a relatively fast last mile (sub 4). Rupp hasn't kicked as well off of this. He can close like a monster of a slow pace and gentle windup but it probably wanting to work on kicking off a more aggressive, extended quick pace.
