Ventolin gave Mutai 26:05 -26:15 capability in another thread. There is Nothing wrong with having an opinion but V patronizes others and asserts his calculations as close to fact.
Sir, may I say what an honour and privilege it is to have you on this site sharing your knowledge and experience.
Can is just ask you to verify one simple issue? Given what you wrote in the paragraph second from last, can we assume that Merga will definitely be in the Ethiopian team? There have been rumours that the Ethiopian team has already been picked and the 10K team is as follows.
Jeilan
Gebremeskel
Kuma
Beleke
Can you confirm this?

Makes one question why they should hold the Kenyan trials at altitude in Nairobi.
If the trials were held in Mombasa or another place at sea level, there would not be any such problem. Holding the trials at altitude does not just prevent athletes from competing, which limits their earnings (not everyone makes it to the WC team, so some lose out completely) and race sharpness. It also means that athletes get selected under conditions that are very different from what conditions will be like in Moscow, so potentially not selecting the most competitive athletes.
Great points about altitude, but it's hard to win with this one. Getting to Mombasa from the Rift Valley by matatu is no short ride. We're not talking about Centro to Paris in a first-class seat here. We're talking about a full day on terrible roads in an ancient van for most of these guys.
Also, temps in Mombasa are probably in the 80s now.
EXCELLENT POST. Thank you sir.
This is the definition of Letsrun.

Where are Kiprop, Kiplagat, Soi, Kiprop, Isaih Kiplagat, Longosiwa. The Kenyans are retreating before the championship, this is going to be interesting.
Retreating? To get back to ALTITUDE and prepare for their trials meet? (Probably the toughest distance meet on the planet.)
Idiot.
Also, each of those names has raced as much or more than Rupp, who only had to jog and kick in two kind of pathetic trials races (relative to what his competition has to go through). Check for yourself.
It would be if you would leave and go toss your salads somewhere else.
Renato had Rupp picked to medal in London. fyi
Do think Kemboi and Koech took a risk running in Paris so close to their trials?
It's not like the Kenyan steeplechase team is easy to make.
Ha ha ha ha!This is hilarious.I like calculators as much as the next guy but they're no substitute for world-class coaching experience where you deal with living, breathing and idiosyncratic athletes who don't always compute.

I know you're not a big fan of calculators, but I do think you have severely under-estimated the 5k ability of some of these guys & over-estimated the 5k to 10k differential ( commonly asserted as about 1'00 over double the 5k time ) at 30 - 40s
Renato, I know that you coach some of these athletes, but you need to understand that ventolin has a CALCULATOR. Do you understand? The man has a CALCULATOR and he knows more than you do about the capacity of your athletes. Texas Instruments would be so proud.
These Kenyans are horrible athletes outside distance running.
And their reputation as druggies are well-known. Perhaps all athletes should submit to voluntary testing. Could save a sport that right now has the integrity of pro-wrestling.
How I already explained, Ezekiel Kemboi doesn't run in Kenyan Trials, having the wild card as World Champion. About Paul Koech, I don't think he is really very much interested in running Trials this year, looking at some new athlete such as Conselsus Kipruto, knowing he has no chances (in a Championship competition) against Ezekiel and, probably, Mekhissi.
Richard Mateelong is out from the second part of last year because an injury never completely solved. Also Brimin Kipruto had several problems during the first part of this season, but at the moment seems able to recover a good shape. For him, obviously can be more difficult going in the Team than getting a medal in Moscow, because, if qualified, for this type of athletes one month of training can completely change the situation.
About the other athletes, Chepkok tries to qualify in 10000m, having a good speed in the last lap.
About 800m, Leonard Kosencha is out with many problems from September of last year. He had a stress fracture in one ankle, and after this always suffered in the same leg.
Missed the part about Ezekiel Kimboi and the wild card.
Who is Kenya choosing for their 1500m wild card?
2011 champ Kiprop or 2012 Diamond league winner Kiplagat?
They can also choose Kipsele over Kemboi in the steeple.
Do they have a system in place for the events where they have two Wildcard choices for one spot?
If they are going with the WC champ then Kiprop wouldn't have to worry about the Trials as E Kemboi apparently isn't.
Do you know anything about Rugby?
his calculator is probably based on a database of many performances, right?
I stated on a thread about the 5000 last week that either Longosiwa or Soi will medal in the 5000.
I'm sticking with that.

a calculator that predicts
3'30.00 / 12'40.00 ->
7'20.73
has to be pretty damn much on the money...
A blind squirrel can find a nut every now and then.
This is exactly what Renato and Brother Colm talk about in 'Running with the Kenyans.' We have calculators, the Kenyans just run.
Thanks for explaining the situation regarding these athletes. I have got to LOVE how Letsrun automatically assumes the Kenyans of ducking races if they don't show up to the diamond league, but this kind of thing happens EVERY YEAR because of the Kenyan Trials and I suspected that after reading none of the big names were there.
Nice Steeplechase outlook btw. Brimin really tends to peak well, but if he was injured, I could easily see it being much harder for him to make the Kenyan squad than to medal at worlds.

That's a different concept than what Ventolin is doing with his calculator. His calculator is fine.

A Duck, your homophobic slurs are so boring. Not only do they reveal you to be an old man and probably unsure of your own sexuality, but you likely don't even know what the phrase means. Please try to stay on topic.
You didn't even understand the point of my post, which was that people acting "tough" and knowledgeable when they in fact no nothing (like you) are the definition of the boards. Knowledgeable posters like myself, SPMBLNPF and Coach D are the glorious exceptions to imbeciles like you.
