that's not Rupp. He's not trained with that mindset. I guess that proves the OP's title, DADDY CAN STILL KICK because that's all he does, ever, which is why his highest medal stack at the Olympics is the same as... wait for it.... GALEN RUPP.
What a moronic post.
Rupp won the slowest 10,000m Olympic silver since 1992. 1992.
Lagat got his silver in a close race against unquestionably the greatest miler ever to walk the earth.
Rupp has disappointed at every World Championships. Statistically, this shows his slow Olympic silver to be a the slow-race fluke it was.
Lagat has six medals at outdoor WCs, from 2001 to 2011, including double gold in 2007.
Rupp's will NEVER be on Lagat's level.
Rupp has yet to "produce" at a world championship race so far. However, 2012 was the breakout year. The one where he actually beat some really big names and have some crazy good finishes. As such, I dont hold those against him...going into 2011 worlds Rupp was a 27 guy that hadn't done my h of note on the world stage. A medal of any sort would have been shocking.
As far as London...slow race medal? Yes. Fluke? Not neccessarily. Rupp has produces several 52-53 second finishes in slow type 5 and 10 thousands. That is sufficient to medal...even against a great field.
What he has NOT shown, afaik, is the ability to do any of these:
1) mid race surge to break away from pack
2)great kick of slow race with fast last mile - see 2013 trials, London 2012 5000. Both sub 4 last miles and neither did Rupp have international level kick
3)Solid kick (mid 50s) off of a quick pace.
Basically to me Rupp currently is a fit, mid tier internation 5000m runner and top tier 10000 guy, that has shown medal ability in a specific type of race. If he wants to be a consistent contender he needs to show/have some of the other options available.
Your Lagat comments are....super obviously? Lagat is arguably 2nd best, certainly one of the all time best 1500m runners. I think its safe to say that no one is, or should be, comparing Rupp to Haile, Tergat, or Komen type runners...and it isn't much of a reach to say he never will.
'Rupp has disappointed at every World Championships. Statistically, this shows his slow Olympic silver to be a the slow-race fluke it was. '
What a ridiculous statement
He is the best American born runner you have had in decades and no Olympic medal is a fluke
Anybody who know about athletics could see he was destined to greatness. On that day he was 2nd best in the world and there was no luck involved
So Lagat was better in his day. A great Kenyan is not exactly news
Who cares what bernie lagat does? He is an age cheating Kenyan who also doped. I remember that dirty cheaters positive sample even if this idiot saladbar has forgotten so quickly! Imagine the sh!tstorm he would raise if rupp had an a sample positive!

at 14 anything, neither of them deserve to go
Better would be, at nearly 15, the USA should be banned from sending anyone to the WC 5k.
Thanks for a sensible post in a ridiculous thread. Of course Lagat is better than Rupp; Rupp is a great runner but Lagat is one of the best ever. Don't see what there is to gloat about from the 5000m, what happened was expected to happen.
So is Bernie older than he claims? that would make him even more awesome

You are an astute and intelligent observer.
People give be crp for slamming the haters, yet I have never come on here and posted hate threads against one athlete.
Who does that (and probably the same dudette under 3 diff handles.)
Rupp-Certified-Saladtosser
Fluke? He ran a 53s last lap in an incredibly stacked race to take down the best 10k runners in the world.
haile, tergat, komen, etc.... none of them have closed a single race that fast. Maybe they could have, maybe they couldn't...but they never DID.
Because the last 100 is the only part of the race they ran.

Bekele has definitely closed a race that fast. The race was not incredibly stacked. All the top 10k guys were injured, out of shape, or not competing.

I said in the OLYMPICS, they have the SAME COLOR MEDAL - SILVER. LAGAT HAS NOT WON GOLD, RUPP HAS NOT WON GOLD. They have both WON SILVER, meaning they have both achieved the same level in their sport.
The WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS are NOT the Olympics and never will be.
On a side note, can you imagine Rupp running for Great Britain and having an EPO false positive??? Yeah, that is Bernard Lagat's history. Think about it.
Well, then critical thinking ability must be the biggest educational problem in your country. In no way is Rupp's silver at the same level as Lagat's silver.
As a matter of fact, Rupp's Silver medal is on EXACTLY the same level as Lagat's.
Every athlete runs the race that is set before them.
You see, there is a reason they give out medals for 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
By your logic, Billy Mill's Gold is worth less than Lagats silver because the time qualities are no where near each other...

Excellent, you schooled all the haters.
So, a Silver medal in rhythmic gymnastics equals a Silver in the 10k?

No, I'd bet a large sum you're a miserable c***. This kind of obsessive irrational hatred is surely the sign of a miserable loser.
That said, kickers are born not made. Rupp has improved a lot and is naturally fast, but as far as changing gears at the end of a race, that is 95% god given. And vs. Lagat, Mo, Gebremeskel, Soi, guys like that, at their best and his best, it's going to be very, very tough if not impossible for him. Luckily the Bekeles don't have great kicks anymore so he got that silver, which is great.

No, that's not my logic. I don't know the circumstances of Mill's medal so I can't comment on it.
Regarding Rupp and Lagat, Rupp got his silver against a bunch of injured and out of shape runners. Lagat got his silver against the world record holder in his prime.
what's with this "gay" stuff? this website can really be embarrassing. how old are you? 13?
Lagat tested positive for epo in 2003
Nope, false test result. You cannot have a positive when the same sample yields a negative result.
If Lagat was using, newer tests would have caught him since. But no, Lagat has not had a false result since.
