the B is 13:20 right now so it is faster than his old PR. Having said that, these guys were running basically 16:15 pace until the final laps (660/3.4 ~ 195, 3:15/km) which is either their aerobic threshold or slower than that.

Not really sure what that has to do with it. Here is what it comes down to:
The guy literally almost outkicked one of the best runners in the WORLD today. He was very close to getting Rupp, the olympic silver medalist over 10k. Sure, it was a sit and kick race, but still...don't try and tell me a guy who finished ~.3 seconds back from Rupp and ~.7 back from Lagat doesn't atleast have a DECENT shot at running 13:20.
The kid ran a great race. Give him a chance to get the B before we all start making assumptions about his future/career.
Hill is a 1500/mile guy. So I would expect him to have a good kick to close on the likes of Lagat and Rupp who are geared for the 5000 and 10000 respectfully. The reason why Hill almost ran down Rupp is because he has the speed to close over the last mile in a VERY slow race. The first 2 miles were at warm up pace for these guys, it may have well have been a mile race, not a 5k. I am by no means trying to take anything away from his astonishing effort to finish top 3. It was incredible and completely unexpected.
Agree. No disrespect to Hill at all, he had a dream come true today. That's very cool to see what he can do if he keeps at it. Still, if the race had been at 13:30 pace Hill would have been gassed and Rupp, etc. would have had the same kick and left him in the dust.
So, is Ryan Hill entered is some races overseas? when and where?
No disrespect to Hill, but in interest of having the best team sent to Moscow, hopefully True goes instead.

What makes you think this isn't the best team? They had a race and Hill finished in front of True.

Not if you've been following Hill. He's shown some serious closing ability in other races.
I like that Hill has miler speed. Comes in handy in championship races. He just needs to believe in himself and get in position for the second half of the race.

Closed Oly Trials 5k (13:27) in 55. Gained on everyone the last 100.
Whoever say Hill is a mile/1500 is retarded and hasnt followed his career. He's only focused on the mile/1500 for a yr and a half and it was only bc the field was weaker for NCAA's.
He was 5th at the olympic trails in the 5k
