I pride myself on the "big improvements" I made as a weekend warrior, in relation to my struggling high school performances.
But people like this guy and Brian Sell steal my thunder. They basically say "move over Daryl, I improved more."

It is an excellent point, and fact. As Mrr82 pointed out he was not .2 from worlds, he was .2 from having an outside chance at chasing the qualifier to go. So the original post is flat out wrong, keep your sarcasm elsewhere if you can't comprehend things like that.
No Americans have the A standard so currently the only American going to Worlds is Centrowitz. If he would have gotten third there is no doubt he could get into a big race a run a massive PR, would it be 3:35? I don't know but closing in 51 today shows HS current PR's are well outdated.

"He was .2 from an ouside chance at chasing the qualifier to go?" What exactly would stop him from chasing the qualifier?
Somebody in another thread has pointed out that both Centro and Lomong both ran the B standard indoors.
All he has to do is join Salazar's group and he'll slam a 3:34 in the first week.

Alright, this is pretty cool:

That's way cool. Mad props to him. Huge congrats; it'd be awesome to see him make it to Moscow.
Centro and Manzano already have some European meets on the schedule before Worlds. If they both get the A, Lomong qualifies and decides on just the 5k, and Elliott runs the B then he goes.
A lot has to go right but Elliott has a chance.
He's an awesome story, I hope he can find a way to make it.
Elliot ran XC at Presbyterian College in South Carolina. They didn't even have a track team. Went to Winthrop for grad school and got to run track one year. Made NCAA nationals in the 1500. Next year he was a finalist at USAs.
He was coached up by Winthrop's coach. He then started working with Scott Simmons while he was in Charlotte. Not sure who's coaching him now.

Still with Coach Simmons part of the American Distance Project, just based in S.Carlona while Simmons training group is in Colorado Springs b.c Matt has a full time teaching job.
If Lomong qualifies for the 5000 and drops the 1500 Elliot will have a chance to make the team if he runs sub 3:39 (which judging off his mile time of 3:57.16 a few weeks ago he should be able to do) he can make the Worlds team. Is there a less likely and more unheralded runner ever to be a National Team. I certainly can't think of anyone.
Actually he needs to run sub 3:37. That's obviously a lot faster but isn't out of the realm of possibility.
HES FAST AND GORGEOUS!!!!
And cries like a real man.... not all Andrew Wheating-ish....
