What may play a factor is that as far as I know, Webb was more of an interval pounding, weight lifting, plyometric doing trainer and not as much as a mileage guy.
That could have something to do with his lack of longevity when compared to say his peers Ritzenhein and Hall.
I will go on the record though and say that I hope he does regain relevance and wish him the best. It's not impossible. The odds can be beaten. People like Brian Sell and Leo Manzano beat the odds.

Webb looks so old and burned out.
He needs to get some rejuvenation treatment or something, like botanical sh*t.
I mean eat your fruits and veggies, get serious about your health, go Caribbean, Mexican, Italian whatever diet just get it and look better. All that coconut, avacado, and pesto/olive oil in their diets look how healthy and vibrant they look in their 50's and even 60's!!! Webb is 30 and looks like a 70 year old jewish man from Brooklyn.
Heck, and stop just eating pasta and carbs, start lifting like he used too, in a word, CARE about it.
I mean if you're going to be a pro, FRICKING ACT LIKE IT.
So let me see if I can decipher what you wrote:
If Webb would cut way down on his pasta, eat more coconut, and do more bench press, then....he would REALLY be "back!" ?
Thanks Man Bro, thank you very much for that.
Alan Webb, if he even makes it to the finals at the US Championships, in any event,I'll be surprised. He'll NEVER, and you can write this down, NEVER win a medal at the World Championships, or Olympics. Ever.
WEBB IS BACK BABY!

Oh yea? How many Olympic teams has he made?
How many national championships has he won?
The only way he is back is if he competes for another country, say... Jamaica. He would be a national hero there.

no, he needs to eat lots of meat. He is weak from probably too many disgusting grains and vegetables.
Funny. Solinsky ran 3:42.48 at Pre a couple of weeks ago, yet I don't hear anyone talking about writing him off.
poor alan: destroyed by every coach he's ever had. he's finished.

Too many coaching changes (inconsistency). Over-thinks his training (anxiety and doubt). Trained too hard for a long time (physically exhausted). These are the reasons Webb is burned out and will never be world class again.
He had a good run there for a while though. He's the AR holder, both as a pro and a high schooler. He won multiple US championships. Went to the Olympics a couple times. Not too shabby. He's simply not going to the leave the legendary legacy the fans hoped for.
one olympics

What do you know about his diet?
Ummm...ever heard of Chinese food and ice cream. We know DAMN WELL about Alan Webb's diet thank you very much.

Perhaps Webb has aged in an atypical way? Remember, he ran 3:53 in HS, 3:47 at 24. And he was balding at an early age. It's seems like he was about 6 or 7 years ahead of the normal aging process. He's now more like a 36 or 37 year man?
No, I think his fitness is due to the major lack of training and injuries he's had over the last couple years.
If he had trained consistently all these years and was running this slow, I would wonder.

I see where you are coming from. But its not about this one race. Its about his body of work over the last 5 years. Solinsky has performed like a boss over the last 5 years and is coming off a serious injury. Webb has not done squat in 5 years and is coming off a minor injury. That's why no one is writing Solinsky off and most are writing Webb off. And its not just his fitness, he makes stupid mistakes in races that he shouldn't be making with his experience. I think most of us wish he would run at a higher level - but for whatever reason it doesn't look like he can.

3:42 is probably what he was always capable of off PEDs.
he was a talent but one that was PED-enhanced when he ran a 3:46 mile and 3:53 HS mile. don't be delusional.
his dad is a doctor just like mary caine's, they both could have easily banked blood and monitored epo levels for their kids.
Webb's dad isn't a medical doctor, dumb ass. He has a Ph.D in Economics.
I don't ever see Webb making a comeback. I don't ever see him making the Olympic or US team.
With that said, I love watching Webb run. I marvel at his attitude. Although he may never be back to the legend he once was, it is inspirational that he can go out there everyday and still try. He knows very well that he is not where he was (just watch his flotrack interview after oly trials). Webb inspires us to never give up. That running can be something we can all enjoy at any age or any level. He may be "washed up", but he is still faster than I or many of you ever were. I respect Webb for the determination he shows to never give up, regardless of how many people doubt him.
He is just pissing away the years! We have had top milers in this country stay on top for a decade or close to two...
another guy, going no where fast!

Apples and oranges, nikeman. Solinsky's performance drought doesn't stretch back 5 years. He had a serious injury (hamstring separated from the bone) fairly recently. For him to be out running world class times at this point would be positively miraculous. Furthermore, he's a couple years younger than Webb and should still be in his prime come 2016, if he can stay healthy. Finally, the 1500/Mile has never been Solinsky's bread and butter anyways. His PB in the Mile is nearly 8 seconds slower than Webb's. A 3:42 for Solinsky isn't exactly exciting, but it's not a head-scratcher either. I wouldn't really expect more from a 5k/10k runner coming off serious injury.
Do you actually follow the sport?

Agree completely. Nikeman is so off with his comments about Webb.

Was this a serious statement?
Yes.
They get injured but they improve year to year.

How have they improved year to year? Especially Ryan Hall
