I watched the webcast and he looked extremely strong. Very smooth and relaxed the last mile. Even eased up and smiled the last 20 meters. I expect big things from him running for Andy at OU.
I see at least a 13:4x for him next year that was a real smooth run, if he had company the last 3 laps or so he probably could have went 14:06
Wonderful run. And not to diminish it, but we should remember that Gerry Lindgren ran 13:37 on a cinder track as a high school senior, breaking the prior American record, only to be beaten in that race by Bob Schul (and if I remember Bill Dellinger).
Pretty sure Lindgren ran more like 13:44.0, with Ritz at 13:44.7

Agree, happy for the kid. He looks to have lots of upside, still looks really really young.
Nice race by Leingang. He is smooth. Also 2 Sophomores sub 14:35. Who is this Elijah Armstrong, Sophomore from Idaho, running 14:28.97?
1 293 Jake Leingang 13 Bismarck, ND 14:11.61
2 3521 Nicholas Elswick 14 Chardon, OH 14:28.73
3 1338 Elijah Armstrong 15 Pocatello, ID 14:28.97
4 3272 Jack Keelan 13 LaGrange Park, IL 14:29.20
5 3530 Sam Wharton 13 Tipp City, OH 14:33.09
6 3653 Tanner Anderson 15 Spokane, WA 14:33.62
7 3339 Tanner Hinkle 13 Mason, MI 14:34.39
8 385 Stephen Shine 13 Briarcliff Manor, N 14:44.58

The 9:04 freshman at Arcadia last year
Oklahoma or Ohio?If you are referring to Oregon, it is UO, not OU.

Tirunesh Dibaba is faster
This is a very encouraging result for Elijah Armstrong. After an amazing Freshman year, his sophomore year has been lackluster--11th at Footlocker Regionals, failing to PR in the 3200, not that much better in the 1600--but this is a fantastic run and hopefully he's on the right track again.

Why is this a fantastic run? It doesn't seem more impressive than his 3200 last year.
Well a 14:28 is certainly more impressive than a 9:04, but I'd agree that a 9:04 by a freshman does seem more impressive. However, freshman talents rarely improve substantially, or even at all, and the fact that Armstrong continues to improve is encouraging. I'm not positive, but I think this is the third fastest sophomore 5k, behind Verzbicas and Cheserek. His 9:04 was worse than more than a couple previous freshmen.

But it's not more impressive at all actually. Don't know why on earth you think that.
I don't see how you DON'T think it's more impressive. Look at Leingang last year: 14:27, 8:51. By all calculators and real world situations, a sub-14:30 is far better than a sub-9, especially for teens, who usually have more speed than aerobic ability.
Even if you can't agree with me on this topic, I think everyone can agree that Leingang's race was awesome, and it's exciting to see two sophomores under 14:35.

Put this kid on the same CERA Dibaba's on and we'll see a 13:50.
I forgot to mention he led the entire race. Not a single step by anyone else. I think he could break 14 in a Stanford race.

Is he done for the year?

Horrible idiotic comparison. IQ of 85?
Everyone knows 1427 and 851 aren't equal. A sub 1430 is not only NOT far better its clearly worse.
Lets throw out more bad comparisons. Ritz 8:41/8:44 and 13:44. That line up? Yea it doesn't work when you throw in braindead comparisons from races not even remotely similar in fast time setup.
