Camarillo, CA
Pros: Great weather, friendly people, little crime, State University
Con's: Too many white people, sometimes too upscale, boring at times
Camarillo, CA
Pros: Great weather, friendly people, little crime, State University
Con's: Too many white people, sometimes too upscale, boring at times
Alaska (big state, but small population) - urban-wildland fringe
Pros -
trails and lots of open space to run
a surprising number of races, at least near the larger cities/towns
fairly to very active running communities
housing isn't too expensive
it's just wild, northern lights, midnight sun, and kind of a freedom state
Cons-
trails not always maintained, so can be on your own and exposed to dangerous elements
those dangerous elements include large mammals that may or may not want to hurt you: bears, moose, and even wolves (pack wolves killed a female runner a few years back)
those running communities can be very cliquish and resistant to new things
just about everything but the housing is very expensive (gas, food, travel, even drinking water in some places)
earthquakes, huge forest fires, endless winters, and long-long winter nights and some pretty woolly weather
Nashville
Pro: Rated one of top 10 travel cities in the world. Also ranked as a top 10 world destination. A top 10 US city in music, friendliness, job growth, and partying. You can fly nonstop to about 50 US cities. Winters lack the harsh winds of northern cities, so it's tolerable outside in winter. Lots of eclectic food choices. Award winning micro breweries. No state income tax. Williamson County (suburb of Nashville) ranked as the richest county in America when factoring in income and cost of living. Except for housing in Williamson County, cost of living is relatively low. World class hospitals and medical care. Multiple informal running groups, as long as you're a half/full marathoner. Track... not so much.
Con: Even though it's not often windy, winter still has several days below 20 degrees. Summers can be hot if you don't run early. No great non-asphalt running paths. Everything is paved. (The dirt trails are too technical except for experienced trail runners.) Oceans, Rocky Mountains, and deserts are too far to drive to for a morning run.

Bugs. Bugs were very annoying the last summer I spent in AK.

Fixed it for ya
Long Island
Pros: Pizza, ocean, "humidity is the poor man's altitude", Hoka One One Long Island Mile
Cons: traffic, yankees fans
Vail CO
PROS: Good skiing. Pretty girls. People like to fool around. K-12 Ed very good. Traffic is light. Good running in the summer.
CONS: US is very unsafe. My kids can't go outside by themselves it's so dangerous. Scared for my kids being shot by police who can only shoot, i.e. they can't fight with hands.
