OFC, I'll say the same for his brothers at UNM, they were the kindest, most gracious and generous men around. must run in the family. when you start hearing the same story over and over, there's something to it. I'll give a Henry the shirt off my back any day....and they'd do the same for anyone else.
Alumni on the team. Pat Henry isn't going anywhere. Oregon-Texas-LSU threw money at him but with A&M granting him anything he wants he is staying in College Station.

What are you talking about? Oregon, Texas and LSU did not throw money at him. The reason he left LSU is because they wouldn't pay him, and neither the Texas or Oregon jobs were open at the time. Furthermore, Oregon wasn't going to hire another sprint coach to replace Martin Smith and Texas still hasn't combined its program which is probably what it would take for Henry to accept it.
Jazz, Here you go again talking again about a subject that you don't know as much as you think you know. You have no idea what Oregon, Texas, or LSU have talked about or offered. So get lost on the subject unless you have actually talked to Pat Henry about it. I would know if you have spoken to him about it...Mind boggling right?

Fact 1: Henry left LSU becasue Skip Bertman wouldn't pay him and was hostile to the track program.
Fact 2: In 2004, there was 0% chance that Texas was going to fire Bev Kearney to make room for Henry.
Part 3: In 2004, Martin Smith was the track coach, and when he was fired one year later, Phil Knight said that Oregon was looking for a coach who respected Oregon's distance tradition.
Those are incontrovertible facts Brandon, a.k.a. LSU hater. By the way, do you ever do anything besides attack the messeneger, instead of the message?
Just you because you think you know. So you were in the meeting with Bertman and Henry? Or talked to them personally after and know the entire conversation. Don't think you did.. So move on

You really are delusional, aren't you? Everybody familiar with the LSU track program knows that Henry left LSU because of Bertman's treatment of him. That's not even debatable. Henry even went on a local radio show and said that the reason he was leaving was because of a lack of respect. FYI, Henry went from being the highest paid track coach in the nation when Joe Dean retired to outside the ten when he left LSU, and in that same period, he went from making more than Sue Gunter (women's basketball coach) to 1/3 of what Pokey Chatman (Gunter's replacement)was making.
So you had access to his bank account. Why don't you tell everybody who you are, so we can call you to get all of our questions answered. Not only about Henry's personal life, but what order we should run rack leg of the 4x1.. Please tell everybody who you are.... Or hide behind your ghey login name
Jazz,
Nod is right. You should respect those who actually know the situation. You DO know this is 2013 right? Why are you posting info from 2004? It has no weight. Things change year by year. And it goes without saying things definitely change in 9 years. I'll put it this way...are you listening? good
THERE IS NOT A SINGLE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR IN THE ENTIRE NCAA THAT WOULD DENY PAT HENRY THE HEAD COACHING JOB OF A TEAM TRYING TO BECOME A FULL TRACK TEAM. Oregon, LSU, Texas, Florida State, USC, etc, etc.
The only schools that MAY deny him would be Arkansas or Florida. But they would think long and hard about it. Just accept that every school in the nation wants this guy and they're offering him not only money, but new facilities like indoor/outdoor tracks. Oregon promised him an immediate start on an indoor track far exceeding any in the world. But once again Pat Henry is happy at Texas A&M. He is not worried about money. After over 30 national championships, I'm sure he's sitting on a nice amount of money. Not only is he excited about the A&M track team in the future, he's excited about really investing in the distance program which is up and coming.

It's pretty obvious that I was talking about the circumstances in 2004 when Henry left LSU, and it's also obvious that nodnarb was too since he referenced a meeting between Henry and Bertman. FYI, Bertman hasn't been theLSU AD for for five years. If he had talked about a meeting between Joe Alleva and Henry, then I would have known that he was talking about something current. Do you disagree with any of the facts that I stated regarding Henry's departure from LSU? I'll admit that I haven't heard anything about these jobs in 2013, but of you have some info, please share.
Texas A&M distance program has been up and coming since 2008. They may be but I have been reading this same stuff for many years. Last I saw they didn't make NCAA's in 2012 with most of the same returners from the year before including one of the top guys in the country.
Calling it out, let me also add that the number of schools that would be willing to make the financial commitment to peek Pat Henry's interest can be counted on one hand so this stuff about every school in the country going after him is pure hyperbole.
Why wouldn`t Texas go after an up and coming head coach like Redwine from Kansas? He just whooped Pat Henry womens program with a more all-around team then Henry ever had; Jumps/ Multis and Throws.
If you think about it there are bunch of D1 Programs, some even mid majors that are better year in and out than Texas A&M in the Jumps, Multis and Throws, and that says a lot about Pat Henry and his program.
If a coach like Redwine would take on Texas, then TAMU days of winning national championships are numbered. Redwine and Kansas just beat everybody without a huge athletic department behind, without winning tradition and so on, now that’s a head coach!
Redwine is a great coach, there's no doubt about that. He might be the best choice for Texas or any other big-time program with an eye on the future. However, in Henry's defense, his 1993 women's team was probably the most well-rounded in collegiate history.
Ok "Kansas coach did it better"
Henry said in an interview after the meet that they simply "ran out of bullets". Do you not remember just a few years ago his womens team won 3 in a row? Lets see Redwine do that. And Kansas got lucky in winning. With A&M. their discus girl getting hurt and tosha rogers randomly quitting. That's twenty points right there. Yeah you're right, part of it is competing and being ready on that day. But they did have the tools to do it. When Redwine can win 7 NC's in 5 years, then we'll talk. Until then...you cannot say Redwine is better than Henry. not even close buckster.
And as steven a smith would say. I have a dear friend on the team at TAMU...that's all I shall speak of with that matter.

Redwine has done an amazing job turning around Kansas. People said he was getting fired five years ago and now the same people say he's an up and comer. However, he doesn't have a track record of winning yet so Henry is still the person you go after if you are Texas. Look at the NCAA title lists. Its unreal the number of titles Henry has over both genders and at two different schools. There are other coaches who could likely win a national title at Texas, however, if you don't hire Henry that new coach has to find a way to get past him in their own state. If you are Texas and have a ton of money and you want to win a national title and Henry isn't an option you go after Bob Braman (no chance of leaving FSU) or Mike Holloway (no chance of leaving Florida). So then there is almost no one that gives you a sure thing national title. You could go after Chris Buckman, Oregon's Robert Johnson or Redwine but I doubt any leave. Redwine is the most likely of the major players to be looking since Kansas likely will never pay him major player money. If none of the major players will give Texas a look I'd say the next option is to go the way Arkansas did and hire a experienced mid-major head coach who has won a lot like Buckman did at UNI. I'd say look at a Steve Rainbolt in that case. After that if you're Texas and still looking you are in a little trouble and you don't combine the program, you cut the salary to $150,000 and you hire someone who will be good but isn't a splash hire such as Tonja B-Bailey or the coach at UCF.
Is that Vince Bigham in your pocket, or are you just happy to seem me?
Bump for Bubba?
With Bubba retiring they"ll combine the programs and bring in Pat Henry.
Texas will offer everything to him simply because they have the resources and money.
