Huge PR for @MattCentrowitz 1:45.86!
Previous PR was 1:47.77
Pretty cool, eh? He skipped 1:46's entirely.
Nice insight jackass
Lagat may have closed a 1500 in 1:46, but he never showed he could go any faster than that. It's not like he never tried, either. He has years of performances at 1:46, but nothing faster.

Closing in 1:46 shows he can go faster than 1:46

Good context. This is what a WC/OG medallist SHOULD look like.
Centro silver = fluke. Just like Rupp's slowest silver since 1992.
I thought I read somewhere that they were going to have a clock set up at 1500 meter mark at the Prefontaine mile for athletes like Centro to get a potential A standard time. Does anyone know if this was done and if so, did he get the mark? Thanks.

His Olympic 4th last year after injury and surgery = amazing.
Not me.
Centro is The Man. He is clearly the best miler/1500 guy in the US and has been for two years now. He will soon be the best in the world.
And so many people cannot see that which is right in front of their faces.
They had a 1500 clock on the International mile but not Bowerman - apparently.
But he didn't come through fast enough so it is moot.
He still needs the standard and will likely get it soon after USATF.
Getting top 3 is what matters first.

You are joking right?
I think Lagat ran a 1:46 800m when his 1500m PR was 3:36, I am pretty sure he could have run a faster 800m when his 1500m PR was 3:26...don't you agree.
To the best of my knowledge, Lagat's 800ms were early season speed work; I don't recall him ever running a serious 800m. With that said, I don't think he was a great 800m runners, but I am almost certain he could have run a low 1:44 when he was at the top of his game. Keep in mind that some fast 1500s go out in 1:49 and Lagat is usually not too far off the leaders.

Lagat never ran in the 1:44's....The fact that Lagat never raced 800's puts him in the woulda, coulda, shoulda crowd.
It doesn't count.
"Woulda, coulda, shoulda crowd" is fine for anyone with a brain. The fact that some of you want to argue that he is a 1:46 800m runner, when he has run 1:46 in a 1500m, is unbelievable.
"Lagat is in the woulda, shoulda coulda crowd"
Right, that's the point. He *could have* run much faster than 1:46.
Uh... Mulder won by a full second and there are pages of discussion on others?
NEAT.

And that's what this race by Centro is.
It's a speed work session to prep for USATF.
It's been pointed out that he was more than a full second back.
Did he go all out or was it a measured effort?
No question that we never saw Lagat or El G's full 800 potential.
What's up with Martin and Jock? Um, maybe they're not in college anymore and are shooting to peak later. Both those guys are monsters and will be in the mix when it counts.

Uh...yeah and Tyler Mulder with the ein at 1:44.79! Hello? Does anyone see this guy? Its like I'm taking crazy pills and have no idea why anyone talks about wheating anymore. Also USAs eill be in ioea, mulder's home state, on a track he ran on constantly as a high school kid. Looks like he will be a contender for Moscow and people need to catch up
Because even in Wheating's poor years...he's made USA team and Olympic team.
Hopefully he pulls his head out of it soon and starts racing to his ability.

What's up with both Jock and Martin? This time last year they were tearing up the track and were always in contention in every 800 they ran. They are even training partners now, so I don't know why they seem to be in a slump. Hopefully they come through for National's and for summer time racing.
Ridiculous.
When Jock races hard for his team through a long NCAA season, everyone piles on how he burned out before USATF. Now, without those pressures, he is peaking appropriately for trials and hopefully some fast races in Europe, and people still complain. A coach/athlete just can't win with you people!

"Best in the world"???
Laughable.
Asbel Kiprop has a 3:28.8 from last summer and a 1:43.1 from 2011. If you think that 3:31.9 man Centro barely squeezing under 1:46 puts him in the same territory you must be either his agent or his mom.
Kiprop could beat the piss out of Centro at every distance from 400 to 10,000. And there are numerous guys Centro needs to get through to get to Kiprop.

How is running a 1:47 two weeks out from USA's "peaking appropriately"? I would think being in 1:45 shape right now like Solomon, Symmonds, and Mulder would set an athlete up best for the championship season.
