Centro on track to grab a medal in Moscow. People will say I'm on crack, but don't bet against this kid when it counts.
His Olympic 4th last year after injury and surgery = amazing.

Faster than the 800 PR for El G and Lagat.
El G and Lagat covered the last 800 of the 2004 Olympic 1500 final in 1:46. Both could have run 1:43 or faster.

What's up with both Jock and Martin? This time last year they were tearing up the track and were always in contention in every 800 they ran. They are even training partners now, so I don't know why they seem to be in a slump. Hopefully they come through for National's and for summer time racing.
Not sure what's up with Jock and Martin. They ran faster by themselves in their conference meet when they were in college.
Joe Abbott has come in under the radar, slowly improving where he is one of the possibly five best in the US. Came from Nevada and went to one of the Washington schools.

Went to Washington State, just wanted to make thatclear. Helped out as an assistant this year and now training back home in Reno by himself the last couple months. Best of all he races in a black Jordan wife beater.
Scott ran around 1:45.09 around the time he ran 3:47.69. Centro was due for this; his 800m was inferior, but he may have more to come, as did Webb, stuck over 1:46 for a long time before 2 races to drop to 1:43.8. Centro can run 3:30 at least this year, maybe 3:29 high. Hard to figure out Martin and Jock right now. They ran 1:44.7ish on several occasions in college.

You are joking right?

Uh...yeah and Tyler Mulder with the ein at 1:44.79! Hello? Does anyone see this guy? Its like I'm taking crazy pills and have no idea why anyone talks about wheating anymore. Also USAs eill be in ioea, mulder's home state, on a track he ran on constantly as a high school kid. Looks like he will be a contender for Moscow and people need to catch up
word up. dude's got wheels if he's rolling 1:44's right now. I'd say he's ready.
symmonds

solomon
Solomon took it out really hard in Rabat yesterday, he looked fantastic. Aman had a hard time beating him.
It's a simple fact that Centro now has a faster 800 PR than both El G and Lagat.
Point is, people sometimes over analyze 800 PR's.
Centro closed in 1:49.5 in the 2011 WC's (51.8 last lap).
Shows he has good closing speed.
He ran 3:31.9 for 1500m last year in a race where he closed well. That's a pretty good time.
He has a third and a fourth in the last two international championships. Savvy racer.
I think it's a mental boost for him to get into the 1:45's for 800.
Probably looked at it as a sharpening workout to prep for USATF.
He likely has faster 800 ability and we may never see it.
What matters is his 1500.
Can he get 3:29 low for a new American record?
TrackCoach mentions Steve Scott's 800 speed, I saw Scott win the 800 at the Pre meet in '82 in 1:46 and change, maybe that was his PR?
It was the year that Scott went on to run 3:47 in Europe.
Scott ran 1:45.06. Guys like Lagat and Morcelli have run real fast with "slow" 800ms but they have all had fast 3ks. Who knows what centro can do for 3k as he really hasn't run one in a long time.

How many US high school 8:44 two milers ever went on to run 1:45 in the 800?[/quote]

Jim Ryun. Ryun once whupped Kip Keino in the 2 mile in about 8:27 and his mile and 800 were better than Keino. Yes, yes, yes, Jim Ryun could have run 8:44 in high school. Anyway, great performance by the younger Matthew.

Track needs a Jose Canseco....who says "Yeah, many of us
are using and abusing." Would devastate the non--believing
crowd who refuse to see the Bekeles and El G's for the
tremendous frauds they are but would re-ignite interest
in this once great sport. Right now it has the credibility
of pro wrestling. Sad shitt.
ryun ran 8:25 2M at 19, freshman year of college.
