Perhaps an explanation was given elsewhere on LetsRun. Why did Leo DNF at Pre this weekend?

Obviously he's not fit. Why that is, who knows?
He isn't sponsored.
And according to LR, to be good you have to be sponsored and have state of the art equipment. Cain would be a nobody without Nike. Same with Galen. Galen ran for silver because of his state of the art equment, not because he has a hard work ethic or a good coach.
Leo is a anomaly, up and down for years, but I wouldn't bet against at USAs!
He seems (to me) to choose and pick which races he will break his neck trying to win or qualified......yesterday wasn't one them.....if he isn't feeling it....seems to me, he drops back or DNF....put look at his record in championship or qualifying races....Leo has always been there.
not count him out
Like Leo, Shannon, J.Cook, and crew.....but still disppointed in the Mexican Flag at the olympics....not that he cares.
anyway.... GO LEO
Did he step off at the finish?
Could've sworn he was way back but still in it with 100m to go
If I were to speculate, in his quest to get sponsored, a DNF looks better than a bad time (taking notes, AJ?). If you look at the head-on shots of the finish, you can see Leo way in the background.
From the Front page of LETSRUN results
QT #3: The results show that Leo Manzano didn’t finish. We don’t know why that is as we are virtually certain we saw him finish the race dead last in four minutes. While 2012 was a dream for Manzano who won silver in London, 2013 is a nightmare. On the track, he’s been running awful and off the track, he has no shoe sponsor and isn’t making any money. We bet that’s not how he pictured things would be going when he put that silver medal around his neck last summer.

Prove it.
You can see Leo's distinct dark blue singlet way in the back in the final 100m if you look at this finishing photo of Silas and Asbel.
Maybe they stopped the clock before he finished.
I would not say he is having an awful year.
He beat Centro and Lomong at Oxy in 3:37 flat.
1:48 for 800 isn't awful.
He did not run great at Pre last year.
This may be the year where he does not get top 3 at USATF but I wouldn't be too sure of that.
I have to pick him to make the team.
Yep, that's him. I remember noting the singlet since it has those wide shoulder that I think look ugly and uncomfortable. Less like a singlet and more like a t-shirt with the arms cut off.So did he step off the track before the line?

Two steps out of bounds.
Best explanation is he's Leo, he'll somehow win USA's, run a couple of really bad DL meets, do well at WC's, then run really bad at Brussels and Fifth Avenue.
And maybe one random 3:32.

This is funny, cos it sure seems like his pattern.
But, the shows up at some big races.
What's not funny is that he is not sponsored.
That sucks.
I wonder if his age and inconsistency fed into that.
I doubt that the Mexican flag had anything to do with it.
More likely factoring in age and future performance, budget, and number of up and coming runners desired to sign...
Of course we'll never know.
I thought at the time that the Mexican flag thing was a problematic choice at best. I can't remember, I think I was of two minds about it...that it was brave and cool of him...and also stupid and short sighted.
It sure seemed to backfire.
But, being a Californian, it didn't really bother me, it made me worry for him -- and, then go out for Mexican food with friends and celebrate the silver, and commiserate Centro not finishing in the medals.
Viva Manzano! I hope he regains sponsorship and has a good year.
By all accounts he is well loved by other runners on the circuit.
I swear that I saw an official finish time for him on the scoreboard, something like 4:00.04.
Moderators,
Please don't delete a thread asking about a DNF of America's silver medalist in the biggest mile race in the USA. Why anyone would think that should be deleted is beyond is.
If there is something racist, delete that. Not the whole thread.
As stated in our article, we thought he finished in 4:00 minutes. These two photos do look like him:

You did see it.
effers
Obviously its likely that he stepped off the track. Can anyone account for what he did the last 250meters of the race? Thats the last time you see him on the video about 40 meters or so off the leaders.
