With a 5.0 wind. Thats like a 10.30 with no wind! and he lost to Andre De Grasse's 9.96. 7
1st place times converts to a 10.17
Andre Degrasse is a kid to watch out for, knowing him personally I still find it hard to believe that this is his first year of track. Kinda like Adam Gimili, although I think he has more talent.
Yes, that is about right; the Big Gold Book gives the 9.96/5.0 => 10.20, with 10.24 for Hill.
Why is this impressive? Martin Keller of Germany recently ran 9.99 in less windy conditions, and no one even knows of the guy.
Because these guys are 8 years younger and still have plenty of room for improvement.
It was at JUCO Nationals. I was at the meet. It was NOT a true tailwind. It was more of a crosswind with some wind coming from the tail. This is a kid who has run 20.1 in the 200m in high school. This is not a fluke time. I remember people saying the same thing about the wind when Tyson Gay ran 9.9 at JUCO Nationals. These kids can fly.
Tyreek didn't win the 200m, but he ran a very slow first 100m and tried to run everybody down (Wallace Spearman style). I expect Tyreek to be a major player in the future once he gets everything fine tuned. That is if football doesn't take him away from track first.
Cheetah was such a great pick
Seen a lot of fast atletes play pro football, but I have never seen anyone as fast as Tyreek Hill on a footbal field, there he is a fast as it can possibly get.
Obviously if not for football he would been a legit sub 10;00/2000trackster.
Rocket Ismail another one who was football fast.
Bullet Bob.
Hayes wasn't as awe inspiring on a football field as Hill is, he didn't have that stop, accelerate, cut thing like Hill has. Actually nobody ever has, Hill is unique.
Yes yes and yes, no footballer is beating Bullet Bob in a 100m a 10,06 on dirt.....wow~~~~
Remember Curtis Dickey, cat was a legit 10.11 who simply didn't look it on a football field, you'd never guess he was a great sprinter. Rocket Ismail just the opposite and just a 10,3ish cat.
Hill did have a legit 10.19 PR, so who can give me the 16 NFLers who ran sub 10.19?
The great Cliff Branch, should have been in the Hall of Fame long ago, his numbers dwarf those of Lynn Swann.
How perfect was Biletnikoff. Branch, TE Casper, yep, all in the HOF.
Thinking he ran a 9.2 100 yards like nine times, barely missed making that 72 Olympic team. Did hold the NCAA 100m record at 10.0.
OMG HE WOULD HAVE SMOKED USAIN BOLT IF HE ACTUALLY TRAINED
I.M.O., you seem a bit too impressed by straight line speed of receivers. I will list the required skills in order. F.Y.I., there are more 4.5x plus 40 yard dash receivers in H.o.F. than sub-4.4 40 yard dash receivers in H.o.F.
1) Can a receiver consistently catch the ball in practice? It isn't even close if you watch practice at D1 level or NFL, the percentage of passes caught in practice by receivers vs. percentage of passes caught by defensive backs and linebackers pass catching drills. There are exceptions. D Hester had good pass catching skills for a DB, Deion Sanders had good pass catching skills for a DB and of course Paul Krause had great pass catching skills for a DB. P Krause had best hands on Vikings according to Bud Grant.
2) Is a receiver brave? I recall from Advanced Physical Conditioning, the fastest receiver on the team was 3rd or 4th string. He didn't participate in T&F but if he did he may have been on 4x100m relay A-team. I asked the other receivers why the fast guy doesn't play. They whispered, "Alligator arms."
3) Does a receiver run routes properly?
4) Routes have options. Does a receiver read defenses the same as QB? Knowing playbook.
5) Ability to beat press coverage. Sometimes with strength, sometimes with quick moves and sometimes with straight line speed.
6) Sprinting speed.
7) Blocking on run plays.
A poster a couple weeks ago didn't understand why the fastest guys on football team sometimes is tailback. From Pop Warner through high school football it makes sense for the fastest guy to play tailback. Give the fastest guy the football (25 to 35) carries a game, Pop Warner through high school. Let the fastest guy score touchdowns. Often makes sense in college. Made sense for Miami Dolphins, 1972 & 1973. Made sense for 1973 Bills. Made sense for Colts in late 1970's, Curtis Dickey. I could go on.
On a football team yu want that bull that can bang for three yards ya also want that 4.3 cat to hit the edge and gone. Think Csonka and Mercury Morris. Same thing with wide receivers ya need that precision route runner like a Fred Biletnikoff and that zoom like Cliff Branch. Remember Chris Carter and Randy Moss?
When talking speed receiver we had Moss, Branch, Bob Hayes, John Stallworth, Bobby Mitchell, Mark Duper, Alworth, Maynard, Don Hutson the first great WR was an Alabama sprinter, Wesley Walker, Mel Gray, Isacc Curtis, Elbert "Golden Wheels" Dubenion, Wilie Gault, Phil Epps and on an on. Yep, also have the route runners like Steve Largent, Ray Berry, Michael Irvin, Lionel Taylor first to catch a 100 passes in a season.
Jerry Rice was far faster than his 40 time, he was te total package.
Kitty Cat.
