We received the following email today. I told the emailer that I'd post it in the forum and let our community figure out if her gripe is legitimate or not.

I don't know if this is something you can help me out with. I ran the OC Marathon this past Sunday, came in 5th women of 3:19:57. Throughout the course everyone on the sidelines was telling me I was 4th woman until the last 1/2 mile, I heard a man tell me I was 5th when no one had passed me. I thought it was strange so I looked up who came in 4th and she also came in at 3:19, 40 something seconds before me. I had never seen her before on the course.
I did some more digging, she has NO splits throughout the course and only has finishing pictures whereas everyone else has pictures from throughout the race.
So I looked her up for her previous races, you can too. Her name is Anne Gemkow from San Diego.
You can specially look at her 2013 Surf City marathon, she skipped the last 2 mats and somehow ran the last 11 miles in 33 minutes when her average pace from the start was around 13 min/mile.
You can also look at 2012 SF marathon, she skipped the first 2 mats.
And 2010 NorCal Marathon where she skipped all the mats yet still placed 2nd female.
I've contacted all the race directors for these races but no one seems to care about this.
She should not be allowed to race anymore, especially if she is using her OC marathon time to get into Boston next year. More races should be responsible for unethical behavior, it isn't fair for the rest of us that actually run and compete.
I don't know if there is anything you can do or help resolve this issues.
So here are two questions.
1) Did this lady cheat?
2) If so, what would you do if you were the emailer?
