He may be able to run 3:50, but he's a 5k/10k guy and it's his first race of the season.
Let's be realistic here, folks -- Lagat ran 3:26 (doped, sure, but whatever) and isn't his PR still in the 1:46 range? Sure he probably could've gone faster, but if he could've gone THAT much faster, he would've.
Rupp is an animal, and his speed is incredible when paired with his strength. But 1:46? Yeah right.
I am only responding to this post to point out its fallacy:
You can not base your argument on one person.
for example, I could just as easily say "Leo Manzano has run a 1:44 and his mile PR is 3:50, therefore Rupp should be able to run at least 1:45 since he has the same mile PR"
Both of these statements hold equal weight in terms of argument: not much.
However, the argument that has already been made stating that since Rupp is more of a 5k/10k guy, he probably will have a comparably slower 800m time to his 3:50 mile. Heck an even better argument at the moment (which has also already been made) is that he is no where near his peak for the season and therefore will be way off what he is fully capable of. I could even see him and Centrowitz being right next to each other (mainly because Centro showed indoors that at this moment in his career, he does not have the wheels for the 800m)
