So again, where exactly was he born?
This high school sports newspaper says only that he was born in Saga Prefecture:
http://www.koukouseishinbun.jp/2012/11/6153.htmlHe probably lives in a small town, because the article also says he catches a 5:50 am train every morning for a 90 min trip to school.
Other points mentioned:
--No special training for him; he trains with the rest of his team.
-- He played soccer in jr. high (another site said he played goalie, of all things).
-- His coach says Kiryu's strength is his ability to maintain proper technique and that he doesn't decelerate much from 60m on.
-- The coach says that Kiryu's performances are the result of day after day of repetitive in training, which he does with the rest of the team. It's not necessarily fun, the coach says.
-- He's 175 cm tall and weighs 66 kg.
By the way, Ryoto Yamagata's Wiki page and the JOC Website both say he's 176 cm/67 kg. If true, Kiryu's probably closer to 5'7''.
