I agree, I don't see how selecting only three rather than five helps anything. Elite marathon runners aren't exactly lining up to go to the world championships, so you're going to end up with 3-5 roughly equal "no-namers" anyways. So why not put 5 to increase the chances that one of them has a breakthrough?

Dot, Faber, and Kastor is the team. Shalane, Kara and Renee will not take it.
DONE and DONE.
Shalane and Kara are obvious. Why do you think Renee wouldn't go? Just curious. She's competed at the trials on the track a number of times without much success, and now she's in a good position in an event. Even though the $ and recognition for the world champs marathon are shite, it seems like it would be a decent opportunity for her to up her stock in international competition.
Vail, Eggleston, and Hartmann...is that the men's team? Or is Mo still weighing his options?
As expected Kara and Shalane turned it down but Renee said yes so women are Metiv-Baillie, McMahan and Faber. Is Faber still hurt? Last thing she did was DNF a 3K indoors. McMahan won the 25K. Metiv-Baillie DNS at London bc of illness.
