Why does that make his statement untrue?
Just reading through this thread and noticing the speculation that the suspects may have left via bike. I was watching the marathon at the further end of Boylston St., away from the finish line - almost at the corner, and on the side of the road away from the Hynes Convention Center.
It just occurred to me that there was a bike chained to a tree all day. A group of friends and I got there at around 8:30am to stake out our spot, and the bike remained unclaimed all day. Of course, we thought it was really odd that someone would just leave a bike there on one of the busiest days of the year in Boston.
Could he have planted it there as a getaway? Then again, it seems really inconvenient to have to unchain a bike from a tree during an escape.
Looks like my hunch on the ex-Brown kid was correct, although the FBI photos threw a curveball, scanner-chatter shows his name was listed as one of the two arrested, and he is the White Cap guy:

The series of events above was just too suspicious, especially given the year leave from school, and heightened FBI interest in (supposedly what would just be another) missing 22 year old whose parents were worried. Why would the FBI get hyped up over a 22 year old philosophy student who went for a walkabout? Seems to be much more to the cell phone and computer left behind in his room that we don't know about yet.
