I'm interested to see his debut. He ran really well in his half debut last year and has some impressive range. I think him, Daniel Tapia and Craig Leon will surprise some people.

Logic has very little to do with running but the obvious logical reason is that there is money to be made on the roads and especially in the marathon and essentially none to be made as even a 3:55 miler let alone a 3:58 one. The other obvious reason is that he wants to. There's no logical reason, outside of the money thing for a tiny handful, for anyone to run a marathon aside from wanting to.

So marathoners shouldn't have sub 4 speed? Ill bet every top Kenyan (say top 25) are all under 4 minutes...easily.

10th place in boston is closer to $4000. thats more than a big whoop.

I was off by $3800; big whoop.

As someone else pointed out, 10th place is worth a lot more than $200. But the financial benefits will not necessarily stop with the actual prize money from Monday. I don't know what Ritchie's thinking on that is but if he's close to maxing out as a miler at 3:58 and is hoping to make some money he needs to look elsewhere. None of that rules out a personal goal.

i met tim ritchie on my BC recruiting visit! great guy. i've heard he's a hell of a racer too, real tough and real smart tactician. best of luck to him!

Agreed. A real stand-up guy. Very intense and focused on his goals. I went on a recruiting visit as well to BC and he has the attitude to run very fast in the future. Obviously it wasn't in the cards for him today.
