Hi everyone
I'm a male Junior right now, (128 LBS, 5'8) and I want to run my first sub 5 minute mile for districts this week.
Here's a background/recap of my entire Track season first:
I know it's late but I had bad shin splints, and had to take weeks off, but I recovered just in time for my first meet and was able to run the 3200M in 11:38. (sadly, I didn't get much base training in, so I was out of shape at the beginning of the season).
Then, a week later, to my surprise, I PR'ed with 11:14 in 3200M and 5:09 in 1600M. (Beating last year's pr's of 11:23 and 5:12)
My splits for the 1600M was:
1:15
2:32
3:50
5:09
(we don't have many meets and 3 of them were cancelled due to rain. Gotta love Florida's weather ._.)
Anyways, I ran another meet and PR'ed with a 5:07 in the mile (wasn't trying too hard though.)
Splits:
1:14
2:31
3:48
5:07
Then spring break came, and less than 2 weeks later, was a tri-meet, which was on Wednesday (originally supposed to be on a Monday but postponed). I felt I was gonna break 5, and I had that focus to do so. I ran, and threw in a massive surge on the last lap, and PR'ed with 5:00.72!
Came in 3rd place, and my coach was shocked when he saw me)
I was aiming for 4:59 or under but I was soooo damn close! (and still shocked by the fact that I took a whole 7 seconds off my mile in one race though.)
My Splits:
1:13
2:28
3:45
5:00
And I always surge a on the 3rd lap, it's something I learned here.
Then, a week later, on the county meet, I ran a 5:03 :(
(it was really cold, and hard to breathe). But I did "jog" the 3200M and to my surprise PR'ed with 11:11 (made a wish off of it) It felt easy though, as my 11:14 felt so much harder.
Splits for this 1600M:
1:13
2:31
3:49
5:03
Does anyone here have some tips on breaking 5? I have one more race and I really want to break it! I'm too freaking close to be missing this goal!! (Gosh now I know how German Fernandez felt)
My Split-plan right now is this:
62-63
2:24-2:26
3:38-3:42
