The coach at Bishop O' Dowd is Regina Jacob's husband, Tom Craig. Letting past drug cheats coach at any level is just disgraceful.

He was 20 meters off the leader at the bell, then beat him by more than that. He beat the pack he was with by what, 60 meters over one lap? Nasty!
alright i have to be a dick here. pause when leader passes finish line and winner was half a stride behind the mile start line. meaning he was 10m down at the bell. not 20. he was still with the pack at that point.
he did beat that leader kid into 2nd place by ~20-21m though.
the front of the chase pack was another 10m down on 2nd place.
so he put 30+ meters on the chase pack. not 60.

Well, considering he finished 6 to 8 seconds faster than the pack, he finished 35 to 40 meters ahead, but point well taken, I only watched it once and it looked like A LOT! He did look like he was running out of the blocks at 150 to go.
The distance coach at BOD is Andrew Cheng. Your barking up the wrong tree.
You are, not your.

Yes, if this guy gets a little bit more aerobic power, he will be deadly. I'd say watch for this kid over the next few years as he begins to develop.
Nice to see O'dowd rocking the same exact uni's we had for the past 5 years out in the valley. I'll have to show this to my team. They'll get a KICK out of it ;)
Extra points for not putting on spandex underneath the 0" inseam split shorts. Classic look that I can't seem to get my kids excited about.
(Full disclosure, we bought new unis this year, so our JV's are sporting the yellow deals)

Maybe he meant, 'your barking up the wrong tree is driving my crazy', but just left out a few words. Innocent typo.

This ^
Looks like he beat 2nd through 5th place finishers by roughly 5 seconds over the last lap.

Andrew Cheng is simply the puppet coach. Tom Craig is his mentor and is teaching him his "methods."
Picked that kid to win watching the first 100 meters; by far the smoothest, and based on the thread's title I figured that was what I should be looking for.
Sorry Eugene you have been discovered by the Let's run message board and your life will NEVER be the same :-(
his 800's from last year are just as impressive.

Thanks for posting the interview. He seems like a grounded guy. I'll be following his career at Arizona with interest.
When was the last time James Li successfully coached a kid who wasn't Kenyan? Never.
He is also said in his videos to have run a 15:24 5k so if he didnt do cross country for long before that then he has a long way to go aerobically.
his junior year he ran 50.xx, 1:52, and 4:36.
his senior year he ran 15:24 for 3 miles in xc, and has run 4:12 and 49.2.

Wow, I can't wait to see how this kid develops. His kick is incredibly explosive, like he's being shot from a gun.

Tom Craig was a good runner and is a very nice fellow. He was helpful to my friend and training partner during a training session at UCLA quite a long time ago. It is good to see that he is now coaching.

Here's the link from the NCS Finals 800 the week after where Nick Ratto turns the tables on Hamilton. Both have crazy kicks.
