Rudisha would win
Rudisha would win

Ok, but what does Ato Boldon know about sprinting?
This has to be the stupid comment of the decade. If you don't know who Ato Boldon is (was), YOU don't know anything about sprinting. I believe he still holds the 100m track record at Mt. Sac at 9.86.
Waterfall start and I say odds become even.
So a sprinter vs a distance runner in a sprint event, fing brilliant
Can we get away from calling it a "waterfall" start. That's sounds so fruity; like if we called it a "teardrop start" or a "rainbow start."Imagine if instead of baseball's "around the horn" they called it "tossing the bases" or basketball's "triple-double" was "thrice and twice" or some sh&t like that. Or football's "neutral zone" was called "the big-man touch space."

Easily Bolt.
Have you seen how scrawny Rudisha is?
They break even at 550m.
Bolt will get the WR in 400 if he wants to
500 should be the distance, but Bolt would not do it because because he would surely lose
now a 400m trained Bolt could challenge Rudisha to a 500, but I think he would still lose
People tend to ignore the fact that it takes a special type of talent/genetic whatever you want to call it, just to be able to do the work to become a really great runner. Some people just can't handle the training volume required no matter how slowly they try to adapt to it.
Also several new studies have found that there are people who are super adapters and people who barely adapter no matter how hard they train.

What a dumb question. Boldon was instrumental in helping the Ravens win a Superbowl, and there isn't much difference between a wide receiver and a sprinter. There are probably tons of wide receivers who could run faster than Bolt if they worked on their form and speed endurance.

Isn't even funny. Bolt HAD a 43.6 relay leg during 2010 PRESEASON.
Rudisha is a 45 low/flat runner at his peak.
The race should be over 500 meters, in a special-sized track.
Bolt wins in 44.88
I vote special SHAPE as well. Maybe this one:

That's because it's not a fact. It's speculation.
Hahaha, no.

By IAAF rules in open division, in every event of 400m and shorter, starting blocks are required. Also, don't forget that Rudisha's PB comes from when he was trying to be a 400m man (wasn't quite fast enough), and I doubt he can run that time now. A high percentage of people in a poll they took in Jamaica recently want to see Bolt do the 400 in Moscow. If Bolt goes out and trains for the 400, it's no contest.
I say that Tyson Gay (44.89) takes both of them.
Will anyone else be in the race or just those two?
No evidence that there's ever going to be a race. They'd have to put up a LOT of money to get Bolt.
BTW, the same Ato Boldon who got called out above for not knowing anything about sprinting has picked up an Emmy Nomination for his analysis of same (ROFL after the comments in this thread).
Comical. Anybody who you see race and not think they are suffering is because they suffer like crazy in their training. Bolt works extremely hard and suffers like mad...when nobody is looking.Gut tells me to bet on Rudisha, and I think it'd be close, but a part of me can see Bolt just demolishing him, but never the other other way around. You never know, Bolt may be thinking of moving up for 2016, and take this as a sort of joke publicly, but privately be absolutely gunning for it. I really don't know anybody filled with so much competitive spirit could do otherwise. Both of them want to win everytime they race, no matter what, I guarantee it.

I'm going with Rudisha - the 400 is closer to the 800 than the 200 is to the 400.
Rudisha is used to suffering and beating people by being tougher than the other guy...Bolt is used to winning by just being faster.
in other words, I don't think Bolt is used to gutting it down the homestretch while suffering like you do in the 400. Rudisha pulls away at 320 meters and wins it.
They should make it a 500.
There is probably a 10-20% chance of this actually happening. If they were both in great shape bolt would win easily. It would be really fun to see if it was like two weeks after the world champs while bolt partied hard and rudisha still had a little left in the tank. It is supposed to be for charity, so making it a side event at another big event would be exciting.
I once hit a home run in little league, doesn't mean I know the first thing about baseball or that I should be hired as a commentator...I hit the mute button every time he starts talking.
