Maybe a sign that NFL testing may finally be getting as stringent as track?

Both track and football are year round sports these days. You might only compete for half the year but the other half of the year is training for those months. People get hung on height but isn't like there are not a ton of short guys (Barry Sanders and Darren Sproles come to mind instantly) who have been really good backs. Now I don't know if Demps has the moves and pass catching ability that are needed, but you can say that about almost anyone. Hit the wieght room, pack on 15 lbs and see what you can do with your football career. Being a 9.95 type guy isn't going to pay the bills....

I've always thought about this too as the seasons sync up well - football ends in February at the latest, so you can run from February to June, and if you make the worlds team, til August, if not go to training camp. I think the problem is coaches prefer you focus on football, so unless you're really good (as Deion, Bo, Brian Jordan, etc were) they won't compromise with you.

Demps is making about 400-500 a year in the NFL, basically bottom of the pile.
Lets say he lasts 4 years at 500K and pulls in about 2.5M from pay as well as endorsements and such.
He needs to weigh that approximate figure with what he can make in track. If I were him I would stay with football.
He would be lucky to survive 4 years and retire not all busted up. Black kick returners don't get endorsements.
He is one of the fastest guys in the world. Better to be that for ten years than a broke and broken down ex NFLer
