One heck of a meet!
One heck of a meet!
Just for the record, Johnny Gray has the 600m outdoor (i.e. 400m track) record at 1:12.81. I don't know if it is officially a "record" or not, but no one has ever recorded a faster time at that distance.

its is a very nice time, loxsom ran 1:16.0 last year maybe faster and high 45 relay carry which is sick for a 800 guy, but when it comes big races it looks like he runs with a piano on his back. Need a NCAA title
Yeah right. He needs to make it to an NCAA final before he can talk about NCAA titles. Maybe he should learn to play the piano? tee hee!

Ahem, you forgot Indiana. How dare you!
600m in 1:12 is sick.... did he run 47/25, 48/24 or 46/26??

Nice to see you a very solid result cherry picking effort. Not sure what your criteria is for picking those names out but also note that in the last 5 years you can add All-Americans Dawson ('10) and Williams ('10), as well as Foster (3rd twice: 10, 11). Big Ten titles in the 800m last 6 Big Ten's is 10. Won the last two DMRs.The only criticism that can be vailidy levelled is that Loxsom hasn't won a National Championship. Neither did Matt Centrowitz until his Sr. year...I'm not sure where this consistent hate and vitriol comes from that gets directed at Penn State every year, but nothing seems to appease those people, and IMO it outweighs any "chest thumping".I think the strongest peace of evidence that a program is doing well is the constant desire by some to drag it down, ala Oregon Ducks.

You might have a point if it wasn't for PSU's obnoxious fans bragging about their middle distance corps all the time. If you can back it up it isn't bragging, they say. PSU can't back it up.
Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio State, Minnesota and Iowa all have a much better MD history than PSU. Do you see their fans spamming the message boards? What about Villanova or U Penn, both in state schools have a better MD history than PSU. Why aren't they so desperate for attention that they spam the message boards like PSU?
You can sum up PSU's middle distance success with 12 names. It isn't the 80s any more.

The recent 1:15.61 is not listed.
1:15 indoor 600 is tough but it would point to a possible 1:45 800 The current AR.

I was there and saw this race. He came through 400 at 48 mid and looked really good. It wouldn't surprise me to see Cas run under 1:43 in the next 2 years.
First of all its PSU not PU. Secondly the more letsrun message board posters hate on you the more success you are having. Keep it up Cas. #PSUis800U
Cherry picking? Me thinks you're making his point for him. Penn State is AWOL when it counts in June. They will be nowhere this year too.
Did you just compare Penn State to Oregon?
In 7 decades you've only had 7 NCAA finalists in the 1500 and 5 finalists in the 800. That's not very good. I wonder how that stacks up to other programs?
A quick idea...
1) the past is the past.....good or bad.......great or so so
2) No one know what he or anyone else might do at NCAAs or in the future
3) why not give a shout out for a great performance TODAY and leave tomorrow until tomorrow

That performance by Johnny Gray clearly stands out. The *real* question here is whether Jeremy Wariner (in his prime, obviously) could have taken down Gray's 600 time outdoors. It would have been a confidence-boosting step up in distance on his way to breaking 1:40 for 800. He is skinny and white after all...
That's a great point. Loxsom and Abda had the two fastest qualifying times and somehow ended up in different sections for the final. That's a crime. They should have been going head to head. As it was, Abda laid down a great time and put the pressure on Loxsom, who then came through with an even faster time. Maybe Abda was in the first section because he wasn't a heat winner? Anyway, Kudos to both those guys - both class competitors.

Yes. Abda hadn't run a 600, so with an NT seed time got randomly thrown into one of the six 600 heats. Loxsom's. Loxsom won the heat 1:16.33 to 1:16.81. Nine guys to the final, six heat winners and the next three on time. Top four heat winner times in heat 2. Other five in heat 1. Loxsom went to the line knowing that Abda ran 1:15.80. Crazy stuff.
