I'm a big Hill fan but he's yet to really mix it up for the win in a big championship race. Derrick didn't win any NCAA titles but he was very close. Hill can run the times and post solid top 5 type finishes, but he needs to prove he can contend for victories when it counts.
This indoor NCAA's will be very interesting. O'Hare vs Hill in the mile? Lawi, Kithuka, and Hill in the 5k/3k?
Why is no one talking about Ryan Hill

The next two guys to join the Schumacher group should be Ryan Hill and Andy Bayer. Both are huge talents with a lot of speed and potential to improve.

The real reason Ryan Hill isn't popular is because:
1. He is not from CA, WA, OR, NY, or IL.
2. He was not a standout high school runner. (Didn't break 9 or 4:10)
3. He has not won an NCAA or National Championship or qualified for a world championship/olympic team.
To be popular in this site you need to meet one or more of these requirements. -
I am literally posting on letsrun.com

Ryan Hill is the subject of more "why is nobody talking about _____" than anyone else. Literally seems like once a year he gets one of these in which everyone says the same things: hes remarkably consistent but has yet to win an NCAA title, can he make the jump, etc. Ryan is making a name for himself as "the guy who is never talked about." Strange.

I am sorry I started a trend of using the word "literally" worng. But if he is only literally mentioned once a year, that proves my point.
All I intended to point out is how close he has been to being someone who IS talked about. His finish in the NCAA 1500 was incredible and it almost one him a title. His finish in the Olympic trials 5k almost put him top 3. He ran 3:54! A few years ago Rupp could barely break 4 indoors. Now a college kid from NC runs 3:54 and the first time I saw his name mentioned was when Rojo mentioned it a few days later. Without foreigners, missionaries, and oversized tracks he'd have 2 collegiate records. I think very few people realize this. -
first rule of lets run, we don't talk about ryan hill

+1 -
5000/806.34 seconds
6.2 meters per second
6.2*800 seconds= 4960.7 meters
So yes, it is "Well more" than 10-20 yards. It's double that. -

Just curious, how many alleged "records" have been set on oversized tracks? Perhaps you should notify the NCAA to investigate. -
Ryan Hill has to step up his game.

Ryan Hill vs. Ryan Hall
could be a good race -
1. Locking the toilet is completely normal for a lot of women/people. My girlfriend for one. And you can't speak for everyone.
2. Changing sides of bed is not unprecedented. Did that very thing with my girlfriend due to a back-hip issue. Sucked, felt weird sleeping on the other side of the bed. On the other hand we travel a lot and often rotate when we travel so I can sleep closest to the bathroom. Not unprecedented.
3.Not hearing each other...if half asleep, groggy, totally normal.
4. He found the balcony, and then closed blinds and curtains...If he had gone "full recon," to get his gun he probably could have gone low on floor, and figured she was till in bed.
5. Scared gun nut? He's already in press from last year in a article talking about being startled by his washing machine and thinking he had an intruder. He is on record tweeting that he went into full recon mode. That's what's odd, he has a history of freaking out and thinking someone is in his house. Don't blame that on typical letsrun people. His history is part of what makes it weird.
And he could have been scared with a gun in his hand, no legs on, and living in SA.
Not saying it is all true. But it is possible. -
oops, how'd that happen?
-
Looks like 30 or so people are talking about Ryan Hill.
-
Prior to finishing 3rd in the 1500 last year his two best finishes were 7th and 5th at NCAAs which probably explains his lack of publicity despite very strong PRs. Also, while consistently in the top 20 in cross he was never a top 10 guy (I believe). His run at the trials last summer was very impressive and hopefully he can bring that level of performance to an NCAA meet and win a title.
-
Also, he wasn't even 4th...
But, in response to the guy's rant about how dumb my comparison was, he has also run 7:43, which, though not as fast as Jager, is pretty damn fast, and faster than GF anyways. -
3:54
7:43
13:27
all in college. Yeah, no one denies he's fast as balls, one of the fastest ever. Just needs to make some noise in an NCAA final. -
I agree Im not sure why hes almost underrated in a way, hes incredible.
