Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Lagat has never run anything over 5,000m on the track.
I think he paced a 10,000 a few years back. Went 6-8k?

It is, for him.

for some people it is, after tirunesh dibaba won a big race she was asked her strategy, she said follow the leader and then sprint at the end, that is usually her strategy someone on the track and field news message board, calls her miss follow the leader.
miruts yifter had the same strategy, always running behind the leader looking effortless, one time craig virgin motioned yifter to take the lead, yifter wouldnt, so virgin stopped and yifter stopped behind him, realizing the pack that was way behind was getting back in the race, virgin ran as hard as he could and yifter followed sprinting by virgin at the end. yifter seemed not to care that the pack was catching up knowing if they did he would just follow the leader and kick, i think it was the 1981 world cup.
Is he gonna race it though or do it as a tempo training run?
Ahem...The point of "if only distance running were that easy" was not about strategy. Nobody with even a hint of human intelligence could possibly fail to understand the mind-numbingly simplistic strategy that you went to all that effort to describe.
The point was that it is not necessarily that easy to run fast for 13.1 miles when your training, experience and talent are all better suited to running fast for 2 miles.
Please get a clue folks.
got a tweet from lagat thanking someone who gave him tips on training for the half marathon. look for lagat to be wearing a fuel belt in the race, so he doesnt bonk. http://www.runnersworld.com/fun/bernard-lagat-heres-your-half-marathon-training-plan

Surprised no one has chimed in on this as the press release went out over an hour ago.
Bernard Lagat is making his half-marathon debut in March at the NYC half:

Weldon,
If this message board was focused on running, not subject to politics, finances, etc. then Lagat’s debut would likely have been seen by the loyal runners who come here.

Technically you're wrong. He paced Meb through 6K in his American Record attempt at 10000 in the 2004 Cardinal Invite:

Jossi the spirit and intent of wejo's remark can be gleaned from this famous quote-
"My country did not send me 5,000 miles to start the race; they sent me 5,000 miles to finish the race."
John Steven Akhwari
Excellent question. What is the going rate for America's best distance runner ever to show up at this road race? Also, why are these appearance fees so hush hush?

This is amazing. Rupp has ZERO chance against Lagat in the 5000 in Moscow this summer. And at WCs he won't be able to DUCK him.
By Rio 2016, Lagat will be beating Rupp at both 5 and 10.

0/10
Yes, that's right! 0/10 was Rupp's record against Lagat in their first 10 races.
Good boy!

Because they're promotional fees and not salaries. Lagat is getting paid based up what he worth to the race and what his entrance does in promoting the event.
Well, I'm tempted to say if the shoe fits . . . . The criteria in Cross Country for All-American have changed over the years. Here are the criteria from Track & Field News:
http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/index.php/special-articles/461
1938-1967 Top 15 finishers at the NCAA Championships
1968-1971 Top 25 finishers at the NCAA Championships
1972-1973 Top 25 finishers at the NCAA Championships, to include the top 25 University Division/Division I finishers
1974-1997 Top 25 finishers at the NCAA Championships, to include the top 25 Division I U.S.-born finishers
1998-2004 Top 30 finishers at the NCAA Championships, to include the top 30 U.S.-born finishers
2005-2007 Top 30 finishers at the NCAA Championships, to include the top 30 U.S.-born finishers; must be from USTFCCCA member programs
2008-present Top 40 finishers at the NCAA Championships; must be from USTFCCCA member programs
The meaning of the above is that while foreigners qualify for All-American status, from 1974 through 2007, an American could be an All-American without finishing in the top 25 or 30--that is, the top 25 or 30 Americans were All-Americans irrespective of however many foreign athletes finished before them.
