I mean, Flotrack does have a thing for hyping up record attempts that aren't record attempts. Or overhyping possible record attempts. They wrote an entire "article" about how Galen Rupp's opener at UW was a possible WORLD record attempt, which was entirely (not very smart) conjecture.
I get your point, they are being overly enthusiastic it seems. If I were Rupp or Lagat, I think I'd take the approach of reaching out to them (assuming they think flotrack is doing the wrong thing here) and say "Hey guys, I appreciate the support for the sport and what you are trying to do, but could you tone it down a little on the speculation."
Now if he had done that, and then they continued the behavior, a public berating may be warranted. But again in my mind the guys are trying to promote the sport in a positive way and a little lenience in regards to over excitedness seems fair.
Maybe there is more to the story, but I'm suprised (correction...disappointed) by the easy hate on this thread.
