Could anyone please post some good meets that you know of that allow unattached runners, and tips for getting into primarily collegiate races as an unattached athlete.

Talk to you college coach and see what he can do. My college coach is always able to get a few people who have stayed local after graduation into some meets. Usually he just calls up the coach of the host meet. If you're not near your old college, just try making some phone calls or e-mails to the meets you want to run. More often than not, meets don't mind having a few competitive unattached runners.

geargrinder, where do you live ?
I live in VA, but am willing to travel.
Call up some of the schools that have track programs near you. Find out if they let unattached runners in and what are the qualifications. Some places have all comers meets and you might be able to jump in those. Also some states have track meets as well. Florida has the sunshine games every year, but not sure if they let out of state runners in or not.
I'm running unattached in an indoor meet this weekend in Virginia. The opportunities are definitely there, I'd just ask a local coach what nearby meets allow unattached runners.
theres always a handful of post-collegiates at the Raliegh Relays and of course theres Penn Relays whose standards are not as difficult as one might think. The NC state meet is the end of march and Penn a month later.
two resources:
1) USATF Potomac Valley webpage, which if you are in northern VA then this is your association -- they are hosting an all-comers meet in two weeks according to their page
2) The Potomac Valley Track Club (no relation) hosts indoor meets at TC Williams High in Arlington VA during January. This may be a club you want to join anyway -- one of the benefits of belonging to a club may be meet entry and scheduling (some clubs help, some don't)
lastly, as an unattached runner usually colleges don't care if you run (most invites are open to all), just call the coach of the team or the meet director and request an entry form
one would think there are meets at Mason and at the Prince George (or William ?) County track where Nike held their meet last year almost every week
Geargrinder, usually a plane ticket and a phone call is all it takes....
Enjoy, wish you all the best.
