This was pointed out by canova>god on another thread, and I think given all of the fanboyism going on it's worth addressing.
In spite of all the excitement, 3:50.9 is not as quick as fanboys want it to be. It seems quick because only Americans run it often and the WR and all-time lists are thus relatively weak. It is equivalent to a 3:33.8 1500 - a whopping EIGHT SECONDS from the WR.
It's so not-special that every Olympic gold medalist since 1996 has done it:
3:31i (Haile)
3:32 (Bekele)
3:33 (Farah)
So, the only 10,000 OG winner since 1992 to have been as SLOW as Rupp in the 1500/mile is Farah, who wone the least competitive 10,000 is recent history.
CONTEXT.
Dummy.
1) Those are outdoor times you listed for Bekele and Farah. Not only is indoor slower, especially for an event like the mile, but NO professional peaks indoors intentionally. And when you're at that level, peaking makes a huge difference.
2) You're doctoring and exaggerating the numbers to meet your misguided desire to be the "dramatic realist." No one appreciates that. For example, the 1500 WR is 3:26, not 2:25. Rupp's indoor mile is 7 seconds off the outdoor WR, which only 1 other person in history has come even close to.
3) To even be within striking range of Bekele and Haile at the mile says a tremendous amount. They are the 2 greatest 10k runners in the history of the human race. Even if everything you were saying was accurate...you're just backing up the fact that Rupp is in elite company.
4) This last Olympic 10k contained the reigning champion from 2004 and 2008, the defending world champion from 2011 and the world leader from 2011, T. Bekele, Gebremarian, Masai, Tadese....the best 6 guys from Ethiopia and Kenya toed the line, and Rupp beat them all. Rupp-Farah isn't Tergat-Geb, but this was NOT a weak field.
5) Chill, brah.
