Sorry I tried to format it so the columns lined up but it didn't work.
Here is what I noticed.
1. With the exception of Haile, everyone ahead of him on the list ran their 1500m PR outdoors.
2. Nearly everyone ahead of him on the combined 1500/Mile list was a multiple Olympic medalist. The exceptions were Niyangabo (generally a 1500m specialist), Baumann (4th at the 5000m in his subsequent Olympics), and Sief (egregious drug cheat).
3. Everyone ahead of him on the 1500/Mile list was well under 7:30 for 3000m except Niyangabo (who rarely ran above 1500m) and Baumann. All of the people ahead of him ran their 3000m PR outdoors.
4. 10 of the 18 people behind him on the 1500/Mile list have a faster 3000m PR.
5. Rupp is now officially faster than Farah at both 1500m and 3000m.
6. Everyone ahead of him except Bitok and Niyangabo were significantly faster at 5000m. 11 of the 18 people behind him were faster at 5000m.
Conclusion #1: Galen is in good company. I'd predict him to break 7:30 for 3000m. He has a good shot at the AR in 3000m, 2 mile, 5000m, 10000m, and half marathon
Conclusion #2: Rupp does not need to get any better. If he can maintain his level for a few years he will win a lot of races and pick up some more medals. If he gets any better than he is now, he will be in seriously rarified air.
Interesting question: Does anyone think Rupp could break the 2000m AR? The record is 4:52.44 by Jim Spivey. If Rupp could manage to consolidate the records from 2000m to 10000m, he would be the first to do so since Steve Prefontaine.
