I guess you attended a middle school in a district that considers diagramming a sentence to be old-fashioned?

What's impressive is the consistency - in all of her races meeting (high) expectations. As for comparisons with others, Rupp's performance today was the more brilliant at a distance that perhaps we thought wasn't in his sweet spot.
I don't think there's any doubt that Mary will be the first HS girl to run a sub 4:10 1500m and a sub 4:30 mile.
It is really making me sad that a girl one year younger than me is kicking my ass.
My thoughts exactly. He is so biomechanically perfect right now, I think he could break every American record from the 1500 m to 5000 m. I certainly think that he could run a 3:45 mile with the right pace setters outdoors.

Girls mature (reach their full potential) at an earlier age than boys do. Enjoy her record season now, but don't think this means that she's going to run 3:57 in Brazil
Dude, first of all you have anger issues. Second of all, men peak and finish up their careers earlier than woman do. There are many elite female distance runners who are highly successful well into their mid to late thirties. The same cannot be said for elite men who tend to peak around age 25-27 or so.
Why can't you just be happy for this talented young lady? You sound like a real jackass.
Haha - she took the SAT this morning. Just unreal.
That is not true, if her body does not change she will break 4 minutes at some point.

Dude! What's more exciting? Someone running 3:53 or someone running 4:32? Mary Cain wouldn't even have been on the same lap on an indoor track. It's nice that we keep track of girl's record's also, just as we do for junior's, master's, retard's, wheelchair, etc...but let's not even pretend that those "special category" records count as much as the real ones do.
Sorry idiot it is you that didn't use apostrophes correctly.
It should be girls' records. Not girl's record's.
The rest of that sentence should read "....just as we do for juniors, masters, retards,......"
You have no idea about apostrophe usage.
Female running is every bit as exciting as the male version. Women are fast, graceful and tough. They compare well to men, although not nearly as strong. In the WNBA the women have almost no moves, can't jump well and ,loom terribly stiff. In some sports women are very exciting, in others, no so much.

No, only one thread talking about it here. There were dozens when Webb ran 3:53.
brojos probably deleted all the others

The difference between Webb and Cain is that w/ Webb, we thought, "Can he do it?" And w/ Cain we think, "Of course she can do it." She's proving herself time and time again over the last two years, so it's become expected. That, and she appears to consciously be avoiding the press, unlike Webb.[/
The difference is that Webb broke the record of a legend. And the general media is familiar with the "4 minute mile" barrier, so they can better relate. Almost no one knows Debbie Heald or the significance of her record. Also, there are far fewer fans of girls' track.

I agree with this.
Regarding the main topic, this is tremendously exciting. There have been quite a few female phenoms over the last ten years, and I think Mary Cain is the most exciting, the most talented, and the most likely to see her success transition into a professional career. I'm not too worried about her future, though - just enjoying seeing what she can do at this level. If it's meant to be for her to break 4:00 1500 and medal and all of that stuff, it'll happen, but this is exciting enough for now :)
:) i LIKEd what you said

Don't feel bad. You'd probably be running faster than her if you had the luxury she does of being personally coached by the coach of Galen Rupp and Mo Farah.
bitter!

jealousy is an ugly look! Instead of getting upset about a girl who can break 4:30 in a mile, you should be setting your sights higher and aiming for guys running sub 4:10! For every mary cain, there are about 1000 (or 20 guys per state) bare minimum who can run her time.
She is EXTREMELY talented, a once in a lifetime phenom, just as Radcliffe with her 2:15 and Dibaba with her 14:17. you shouldn't compare yourself to phenoms like that! Its like Angela Williams, Allyson Felix, and a host of other women who can break 11 in the 100 meters! These are phenoms and for each of them, there are about 1000 guys who can do the same!
They are ELITE for a reason, 1 of a kind. I'm sure the elite guys arent getting jealous over them. If you're average, you're abverage. You're more than likely faster than the average woman too.
there is NO reason this girl should run in college.
her only goals should be olympic finals, and the best way to achieve those does not involve the college training/racing saga.
she needs to finish her school year and have her 16 year old fun, then turn pro and begin working on her long-term olympic training plan.
Flotrack already took it down. Bunch of whiny p***** because nobody will pay $20 a month to use their crappy services.
4:32
An amazing time. It's better than Heald's record, but remember Heald ran on a much slower track...and 40 years ago. Heald's time is more impressive for her era and her slow 11-laps-to-a-mile wooden track.
I think Cain needs to run 4:30 to be as impressive.
Also remember people, when Ryun or Webb ran amazing HS mile times, they were also the best high school milers the world had ever seen. Cain isn't even close to that. There has been more than one high school girl in other countries (Australia, etc) who have run 4:25 for the mile already. Cain is helping American females to catch up though.
