Ironically, Lance is an admitted atheist. He is his own God, which is completely contrary to the teachings of Jesus. If he wasn't such an arrogant narcissist, I imagine plenty of people could forgive him. What he needs is not only to admit his failures as a human, but to sincerely apologize to those he hurt either financially or emotionally and perhaps make some headway toward making them whole, repent and seek forgiveness and redemption. In other words, he needs Christ. His charity, even with all of the good it has purportedly done, appears to have been just a charade to boost his image. Perhaps he should GENUINELY focus on that aspect of his life.
He had many chances to own up to his cheating, but he malevolently threw others under the bus. Oh, and he did fail a test, and it looks like he paid to cover up another one. Cycling and other sports are inherently dirty, no doubt. The difference is, guys like Vaughters admitted their failures and turned over a new leaf, in an effort to clean up the sport and behave in a more ethical manner. But Lance? Lance decided to ride again to PROVE to his children that he wasn't a cheater. And now? Lance needs to be broken, will be broken, and only then will he see what really matters in this life. And then his love can be sincere and heartfelt. I hope he can reach that level of introspection, because, having doped for so long in the wake of cancer, there's no telling how many years he has left.
