800m 2:01.8 is the most impressive record.-Also a 16 year old. Equates to 8:52 3000 for a 16 yr. old female runner. H.S female distance records have been soft for a long time- one would think sub 9 3K would have been broken over a decade ago.

Melody Fairchild's 9:17.7/9:55.92 race was in 1991, not 1995.
Why is Cain still racing so soon after NXN? Doesn't she have any down time to rebuild for track? She's just gonna burn out by June.
Annemari Sandell run 8.51 @ 16y.

4:11 pace is about 16.7 per 100. Throw in another 109m in the middle of that, it's not gonna be 19 seconds. 18, maybe. 4:29.
So I can run a 5 minute mile right now so by your logic I should be able to run around a 2;12 marathon. Right? Do you know that a 2 mile is 218 meters longer than a 3k. When someone runs an all out race, they are dead at the end and couldn't just run 200 more meters at the same pace. All of that is figured in when you do conversion. It doesn't just assume you could keep doing the same pace for another entire 200 meters. Since the race is longer, the whole race will be slightly slower.
Are you getting it yet?

How can she set the high school record when she is a professional runner?
High school is where you get your education when you are in your mid-teens, it's not a career status.

she is not a professional runner. she will be someday, but salazar is keeping the college option open as he did for rupp, but who knows in 2 years she may be to good for NCAA.
I am a bit of a homer but Emily running a sub 10 3200 in practice is probably more impressive. Just sayin
Is anyone sure that this really happened?

Here is a snippet at the end of the highlight video. Gotta love that kick.
http://www.runnerspace.com/eprofile.php?event_id=10&do=videos&video_id=78715That was a fantastic run by Cain, but she still has a ways to go for it to be called the greatest high school performance ever. Greatest American high school performance would be more accurate. Kenyan Mary Waithira of Sendai Ikuei H.S. set the 3000 m international high school record of 8:48.16 in October.

I'm sure some Kenyan girl has run 8:3x, no? Probably not in school so maybe that disqualifies her.
I know Zola Budd ran 8:37 at age 17 and 8:39 at age 16.
http://runsub4.com/2011/05/26/age-group-track-and-field-world-records/agip, getta grip, most Kenyan runners, male and female use/used epo...
must have cost her father a pretty penney to get her out there...she is an amateur, no?
She could have done the same for her high school team, what's the hurry to go elite? Many great h.s. boys have the best of both worlds..... good high school coach, teammates who you will be friends for life, winning with/for your school, and then the excitement of choosing a good running college...what's the rush with a talent like Mary?
Handing Salazar the keys at an early age seems to have paid off for Rupp.

Only 23 seconds to go!
Cain should be able to do that very easily.
Not worth the risk of doing it wrong. Absolutely no point in running any HS races and college could be an option but it will be on her terms no on some point-chasing-coaches terms.
She is already better than most (possibly all) NCAA women.
'800m 2:01.8 is the most impressive record.-Also a 16 year old'
Would be interesting to see her up against the top UK junior
Jessica Judd
400 56.23
800 2:00.96
1500 4:09.93
3000 9:08.5
Cain and Judd have already met, twice -- at the 1500 prelim and final last year in Barcelona.
With Judd narrowly beating her in the Q and then she ran 409x to Cains 411x in the final.
She is 17mos older however. INteresting to see if both or either line up for the final in Rio. Seems like a lock but you never know.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
