In perfect conditions. Likely 3:33-3:34 will be the best he ever posts.

He ran an easy 3:34 in a little meet in Occidental. -3 seconds at least in Brussels or Zurich. I do believe he can run sub 3:30 this summer, but may not get the chance.

Several 5000-10000 guys could have run 3:29-3:32 if they'd really given it a go and hit 2-3 of the best 1500 races every summer. It's more for lack of opportunity than lack of ability that they didn't, which is different than couldn't.
I don't really see Rupp hitting many great 1500's, but perhaps next summer as there is no international championship he can dabble a bit more and work on that speed.
After his indoor 2 mile and early season 3:34 last year, I have little doubt that if he was training as a 1500-5000 man last year he couldn't have hit 3:31-3:32, and perhaps even off of his 5000-10000 training. He just needs to be in one of those races like Wheating and Centro and Leo and most of the guys where they really unleash a time.
People said the same things about Centro & Wheating until they got in the right races healthy and did it. Some people just can read the signs.

yes
if he was stepping down his mileage/increasing speedwork he woud lose his 10k & probably 5k edge & coud go even faster
gus choge looked a low-12'50 guy in his epic '06 race v buster & moved to 1500 a while later & ended up at 3'29 & 1'44 !!!
rupp coud get close to 3'30-flat if he made the career move, but it woud probably need a coupla years minimum of specific concentration on 1500
and perhaps even off of his 5000-10000 training
maybe but odds against,
natural strength improvement/maturity might get him just into 3'31s in a year or 2 if he stuck to 10k/5k training
Surely Rupp has 49 400 speed, that is a lock. Doesnt mean he can run 3:28, but if he cant, his supposed lack of 49 400m speed will not be the reason.

False.

Salazar said Rupp closed a workout 50.x in preparation for his USOT finish in 52.5.
Rolling start. As I said before, that works out to a 51.x 400, the most reasonable estimate of Rupp's 400 ability. I'll say 51.2-4 if he were to race it from the block.

Again, I'll give him 3:32 if everything is PERFECT.
3:29 is fantasy.

Rupp can run 48 for 400m.
But that doesn't mean he's a 3:28 guy.
I agree he can probably run 48 for 400. I am sure he has 23 second 200 speed, whereas Farah only has 25
In the right race he can run at least 3.28, but getting a few good races at 1500 is what is required.
I think some people on this thread are living in the past. There are more opportunities now for fast times at 1500m which didn't exist in Coe's time.
Galen Rupp is strangely under-rated on this website, which is rather strange. A lot of jealousy is directed his way.

In the right race he can run 3:32.
You have no idea what 3:28 means.
Rupp is not competitive in the event with, say, Asbel Kiprop.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
