I love this idea. If you manage it, I'm going to give it a shot before too long.

Am concerned about your nutrition -- your second 12 hours will be hell if you don't eat more! And consider showering a few times, even relaxing in a hot bath for 15 minutes. You'll get a boost from passing the halfway point but late this afternoon things will get bad if you don't take better care of yourself.
Your last 12 miles will be extremely difficult. I doubt you will make it.

Maybe try eating Peanut Butter and Jelly directly after your next run. It's gentle on the stomach, has decent carbs and some protein as well as a bit of sodium (which you are going to need before too long).
Ok I'm going to make a PB&J sandwich.
I'm thinking I might microwave a pizza before my next run and eat it afterwards.
Ok guys, I gave up. I have to poop. Bless you all for following,

I'm going to eat! You guys have convinced me. I just don't want my stomach to be hurting.
Oh, and in highschool I went three days without eating or drinking anything for wrestling, so I know how it feels to be running on an empty stomach.
And most of my teammates are out of town for winter, and the ones that are in town won't do 2 miles at a slow pace with me. Except maybe Russell or Jasper.. But I'm fine on my own. The run just flys by.
Noon run done. Felt smooth again. Time to eat a pb&j sandwich.
You can also try quesadilla's, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken noodle soup...all of these tend to be easy on the stomach, while offering you some much needed calories and sodium. If your stomach starts to get upset, maybe try a half of a tums as well. If you have some chips handy, these can help with salt and think about some semi-defizzed caffeinated soda for later as well (helps settle the stomach and gives you a boost). Try draining your legs after each run (elevate legs for about 8 minutes) and change up your shoes every so often. (Your GF will appreciate if you shower...)
1pm run done. Glad I ate that sandwich. Felt good again.
Stopped to pet a dog, and then started running and it barked at me, so I stopped to pet it again, and its owner came out and got it.
Only 10 to go.
Well done man, keep it rollin'.

This is very interesting to me because I will do anything to recover faster after running. What exactly "drains" from your legs if you do this?
Keep going Ian; I live in northern Canada and ran with about 15 friends this morning and told them all about you. They're probably following you now as well.
With repetitive impact, we speed up the natural hemolysis of red blood cells. "Draining" the legs is twofold beneficial in that it helps to recirculate broken red blood cells with healthy red blood cells thus allowing oxygen and nutrient rich blood to assist with the healing process. Also, if there is any amount of swelling inthe lower legs and feet, it will inhibit he healing process as well. Think of draining the legs as a cheap and easy ice bath.

Awesome! Thanks everyone for all the support. To the poster that said he wants to try this, go ahead! Its a cool experience to get done running, and lay your head down, and then as soon as you get comfortable, your alarm going off telling you its time to go again.
2pm run done. Felt good again. Hungry though.
I have to take my girlfriend to work at 4, so my 4pm run might start closer to 4:20 unless I can drop her off early.
Ian, if you have the data and energy to post, will you list your 2M times so far? Curious about your pace.
Keep rollin

C'mon dude, get someone else to take your girlfriend to work! You need to focus on the running routine. We're all pulling for you.
haven't seen this many people on LRC full-on support something/someone ever before. KEEP IT UP IAN EDWARDS YOU DOG
LETS GO IAN!
Sorry about the earlier pessimism. I hope you do it. Previous 24 Hr. relay experience had me hallucinating towards the end. Try to find someone to do those final miles with.
I don't know why, but i'm really pulling for you to do this. keep it up!
